the place sounded dull because it said it was portrait gallery but it was pleasant surprise. there was much more variety and found the place fascinating. calm and clean layout of the galleries and some good works of art.

So much to see. You could spend hours. They also have free tours on certain days. Check calendar. They have free lockers

The exhibits here range from the Presidents to LL Cool Jay, to Stormin' Norman to Shirley Temple. The architecture alone is fascinating and breathtaking. The range of portraiture is amazing and crosses cultures, styles and people of all backgrounds. One would not expect Toni Morrison...More

For history and art buffs. Many people miss this Smithsonian Museum because it is not near the others on the Mall.

We did not have a lot of time to spend at this museum due to another commitment that afternoon, however, be sure to visit the presidential portrait area. We were impressed with how nicely it was done.

At the National Portrait Gallery you show up at the appointed time for walkin tours. Meet behind the information desk on the F Street side of the building. Enjoy.
