The is a cracking day out, the choice of artwork is fantastic. It's well displayed and a joy to walk around. Anywhere else you probably have to pay a fortune to see these master pieces. The family and I really enjoyed this gallery and wished...More

The National Portrait museum stays open later than many of the other Smithsonians. It was fun to walk thru the celebrity portraits as well as the presidents portraits. The kids enjoyed looking at first but then became bored.

Even the grandkids enjoyed the modern art and sculpture in this Gallery. There is American Folk Art...sculpture made from aluminum foil and bottle caps. Lots of whimsy. Nice courtyard in center of building, to rest and feel the outside, while inside.

This building is vast, and combines the National Portrait Gallery with the Museum of American Art - and permanent collections to temporary exhibitions - all of which are under the banner of the Smithsonian. It's absolutely huge and has everything from very formal portraits (Elizabeth...More

No, you can simply walk in. If you visit during the week it is fairly quiet and even on weekends, it doesn't feel that busy (it is so vast that you don't notice the crowds!). There is no charge, unless there is a specific... More
