Though the Library of Congress doesn't own every book ever published, it sure has most of them, with 532 miles of shelves and 115 million items, with 7,000 added each working day.

This building is gorgeous! So intricate and well planned. They give tours or you can just explore on your own like we did. You can't go into the actual library itself because it is by reservation only but there is a little balcony you can...More

The LOC is one of my favorite buildings in DC. Sadly, my tour guide today did not do the building, it's art, architecture and history justice. I do understand that the tour guides are volunteers, but would suggest that a minimal amount of knowledge be...More

I love this place. I always dream of it. Either way, my personal advice is that you will enjoy it if you are really into it. It takes time and some knowledge in advance if you want to squeeze all the juice out of it....More

Writing a review seems almost silly - why would you not visit? Beautiful building, enormous collection of books, and lots of history.

Beautiful building and a lot of history. Free public tours are run every hour from 10:30. Turn up 20 minutes or so early because they are first come, first served. Tours are led by volunteers who are very knowledgable. I recommend doing the tour and...More

This in my opinion is the most gorgeous building in Washington. It is an architectural gembox chock full of hidden detail, murals and literary and scientific references and allusion. It doesn't have the austere marble simplicity of the Supreme Court or many other Federal buildings,...More

We particularly wanted to see the Jacob Riis exhibit "How the other half lives" because we missed it in New York. It was fantastic! We also visited Hope for America Performers, Politics and Pop Culture and World War I American Artists View the Great War....More

We walked around on our own using their brochure. It was not busy at 9:30 am on a Monday morning. The inside of the building sparkled. The tile floors were lovely. They had an interactive touch screen that let you zoom in on different items...More

The inside of the Library of Congress is beautiful! This can be a brief stop, but it's worth a visit.

I agree, 90 minutes to 2 hours is a good time frame to put aside, that would give you enough time to either tour on your own or take a guided tour, plus have time to look around on your own if you do decide to do the tour... More
