My daughter and I traveled on Chuckanut Drive after visiting Western Washington University in Bellingham. We've heard wonderful things about the drive from friends. The trip didn't disappoint as we winded through the highway and saw the beautiful landscape along the way. If you're in a hurry, take the freeway. If you want to see the sights, take Chuckanut Drive.

We never tire of this route between Bellingham and Highway 20. After crossing the Peace Arch border, we travel the I-5 to the last Bellingham exit--Chuckanut Drive--, gas up, and make our way down to the southern edge of the Bellingham's Fairhaven District, turn left, and settle in for enjoyment. From start to finish, Chuckanut Drive is a route that... More

We were on our way to LaConnor for the tulip festival and lunch and decided to take Chuckanut. We have all taken it in the past and really enjoyed the drive. There were 6 of us and as usual the ladies took the majority of the conversation and decision making. We were just along to drive and pay. The drive... More

If you're looking to get from point A to point B, take the freeway. If you're looking to spend a day exploring the Skagit Valley and Fairhaven, take Chuckanut. The views over the sound are outstanding. But Chuckanut Drive offers more. We stopped at Samish Bay Cheese just west of Chuckanut on Bow Hill Road. And then we headed east... More

This is a very nice drive in the woods along the shore. The road is narrow and not designed for high speed travel. We had no problem taking our RV over the road but the clearance was tight. We took a break at the Samish Bay overlook. There were some very nice story boards at the overlook documenting the oyster... More

Not for the squeamish driver or passenger. The road is narrow with no shoulders (10' lanes bordered by rock right up to the edge of the lane). Beautiful views, if this doesn't distract you.

Great views of San Juan Islands, a few great picnic spots and viewpoints, an oyster farm, restaurants, popular hiking trails, a long history, and a mountain-hugging road - what's not to love? Look out for cyclists!

My friend and I picked a wonderful sunny weekend to enjoy Chuckanut Drive and along the way stopped at the Oyster Bar for a gourmet dinner with the freshest selection of oysters. The view from the restaurant overlooking the water is incredible and oysters were absolutely delicious.
