Amazing views along the North portion of the loop. Make sure you stop in Winthrop on the eastern edge. So many cool little shops and incredible eating choices.

I highly recommend this drive. We started and finished in Wenatchee and drove it counterclockwise. Lots of side trips to do to take photos or hike. Diablo Lake is stunning! Mountain ranges are amazing!

The key is no traffic. We headed out, East, on a Friday morning and returned on Sunday morning and had the road basically to ourselves.

I had two full days to get from Port Townsend to Leavenworth and, on the advice of other Tripadivsor members, took Highway 20 - and what a great choice. Fall must be the absolute best time to do this: we had the roads almost to...More

We were luckily traveling east bound. But the west bound traffic was backed up at least 4 miles. In speaking with a USFS volunteer, he said that was normal for a Sunday. Overall, we hiked lots on the highway 20 side. But the highway 2...More

We only did the Northern section which was manageable in a day. Approaching from the west, we passed Rockport State Park and Marblemount without stopping. (We did stop at the home/family-style Marblemount Diner for dinner on the way back. It filled up rather quickly.) By...More
