We rode from Sterling to Leesburg and back. The trail is marked along the way by local businesses who welcome you to come and visit them. These signs let you know .. quickly..what they have to offer and if they have restrooms. I found this to be a delightful addition to an already wonderful trail. The locals are very savvy... More

I walk this trail continually. I can get to it just up the street from my house but I also drive to other stretches of it so I can enjoy new scenery. My husband rides it 19 miles round trip for work everyday. The trail is paved and has a centerline to keep people safely on the correct side. Serious... More

Excellent place to walk, bike, or run!! Trail is pretty flat with some hills...great for training. Some areas are next to water, too! There is also a mountain bike trail right next to the paved one!

Amazing trail suited for bike and pedestrian alike. Hidden in a urban area between DC and IAD. Noted paved and non paved trails to accommodate the different requirements of bikes and pedestrians.

This is a very well maintained 45 mile paved route. I almost always see a volunteer surveying or fixing something along the route. Over the years, there have been constant improvements with countdown stop lights at the few major road crossings, repaving, and minor routing improvements. There are mileage markers every 1/2 mile, signs announcing the different towns, many informative... More

Well maintained with lots of amenities at regular intervals. Built with bikes in mind unlike some local trails, the hills are all moderate. It is a power line trail, but a very nice one.

We love to drive over to Leesburg from MD via White's Ferry to bike the section of the W & OD trail that goes west from Leesburg towards Purcellville. There is a slight rising grade on the outbound leg. Several road crossings are located within the Leesburg city limits. Once out of town, the trail passes by residential areas and... More

I used this trail several times during my stay in Herndon, VA. I ran through the towns of Reston, Herndon, and Sterling (Mile markers 16 - 23). A couple times I started before the sun came up and the area felt very safe the whole time. The trail is paved with a center line and in excellent condition. The biggest... More

The trail where I usually run is pretty flat. Plenty of room for bikers and runners to pass each other, which is good. Not terribly interesting scenery, but it'll do. And it's really long, so good for training if you're into races.

I recently visited the Herndon, VA area for business and the Holiday Inn Express Hotel offered mountain bikes to its patrons. Being a cyclist myself I jumped at the chance to get in a few miles while on a business trip. I took out a Raleigh Mountain Bike and got in a 5 to 6 mile ride after dinner and... More
