It is a great place to visit with friends and family. You can go sailing on the lake or cook some bbq on the shores. The views are stunning, specially during sunrise and sunset.

We're on the lake frequently. Make sure to go to the state park, Dreher Island. Great place to take your dog for swimming, and some restaurants are dog friendly. Lots to do at the state park, one of South Carolina's top parks. Fishing is fantastic,...More

This lake is just beautiful!! Great restaurants by boat and land all around the lake. Fishing is the best, even arrow head hunting. Something for everyone at this lake.

Lake Murray is located within easy driving distance of Columbia SC. There are 2 great public beaches with picnic areas at the dam. There are several restaurants on the lake and gas docks.

Okay I realize Tripadvisor isn't meant for this but I already asked on another forum but I've overstayed my welcome! I'm already living in San Diego in La Mesa. I'm leaving my apartment at the end of September (rent is too $$$ for me for what I am getting even though it is a nice complex). Im between 2 very, very different apartments and both are within 15-25 minutes from work so the commute doesn't make a difference. Crown Point Apartment - -$1520 + utilities -1b1b, with patio, 700sq...More

Sorry you are correct that your post is not what TA is about! You'll have to decide if you want to stay in La Mesa or move to Crown Point. There is no "too old for PB" as folks of all ages live there. You'll have to just be a grown up and make your own decision!

Welcome to Columbia! Saluda Shoals Park has a dog "barking lot" which is very close to Lake Murray. On the Irmo side of Lake Murray there is a boat ramp that has a nice view of the lake and has grass, pine trees and picnic tables. Harrison State Forest has nice trails. I would also check out Finley Park downtown.

Family Reunion Venue 200+ Family members (5 Replies)
We currently hold our Family Reunions at Lake Murray State Park but the accommodations are starting to deteriorate and the extra expenditures on renting tents and tables are beginning to be unreasonable. Suggestions on a venue that can host our size of a Family Reunion, preferably with cabins, lodge and pavilion?

Thank you Geargetowngal! We would like to stay within a 2 hour radius of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Currently we rent out between 20-30 cabins and about 15-20 lodge/hotel rooms. We would like a place with a pavilion with cookers and picnic tables.
