I have been playing Black Mesa for 8 years. The course had water issues 2 or 3 years ago and just about lost all of the fairways and greens. That was the low point. Now the... read more

Read about the troubles the course had a few months ago and wanted to update.Just played here this past weekend and the tees and greens are in great shape. The fairways 95%. Bunkers are still not good. This is a fantastic golf course- I think one of the most beautiful and challenging settings there is. I played a different perfectly... More

I have been playing Black Mesa for 8 years. The course had water issues 2 or 3 years ago and just about lost all of the fairways and greens. That was the low point. Now the course in regaining the class that got it on on the Golf Digest top courses. In the next year or two it will be... More

I met a friend in Santa Fe and we played round at several local courses. Having lived in the area previuosly, I was really looking forward to Black Mesa, one of my favorite tracks. Unfortunately, the course is in dire operational and finanical shape. Play has been limited to four days per week and the restaturant is no longer open.... More

As of September 2016 the course is closed Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays due to maintenance problems leading to low demand. Spectacular setting and skillful design now crippled due to problems with accessing water from the nearby Rio Grande. The golf professional Tom Velarde is a gifted teacher, near tour level player with a keen love of the game but lack... More

Black Mesa offered an excellent challenge and took me out of the norm as far as golf is concerned. I had a great time and felt that the greens were very challenging as well as hitting the fairways. For those of you who like technical courses this one is for you!!! Also...can't beat the great scenery, absolutely unique!!!

Black Mesa has a well-deserved reputation for being a tough golf course. It is indeed tough. Fairways bend and swoop in unexpected ways, narrowing tightly for players who want to lay up. The greens are exceedingly well protected by traps and gullies. Also, ridges and swells abound on the greens. Finally, don't hit in the rough! Balls more than a... More

We do so thank you for your review of the golf course. We are also glad you were understanding to the situation that the severe rain and washout caused. Black Mesa has been working very hard to remove the deposited material but we have over 300 acres that were all effected and the process is quite tedious. Please come out... More

Just played Black Mesa, it's in bad shape. Greens and tee boxes were adequate, but fairways were bare of grass with numerous spots of dirt. Bunkers had no sand, we're basically hard packed dirt.

Sorry you thought the course fairways were bare of grass. It should be noted that we had three inches of rain in an hour and being a high desert had some wash out happen. We are striving to have a true links course play fast and firm Black Mesa will never be a parkland course. If you want a challenge... More

I was going to title this " Come for the rattlesnakes- stay for the golf" but then people would think I was writing a negative review. Instead, I want to indicate this is one of the most scenic and challenging golf courses I have ever played. I read the bad reviews and all I can say is grow up. This... More

Have not played Black Mesa in a couple of years! But it's always been one of our (2 couples) favorite courses in New Mexico. We got the opportunity to play it on May 3rd during our annual New Mexico trip, and were pleased to find the "New Mexico Monster" back in very good shape! Greens were slow (only real negative),... I just played Black Mesa today with a group of friends. I love this golf course! It is one of the most scenic courses I have played. For this early in the season, the condition 's were very good. The greens were punched 2 weeks ago and have healed well, but they have not yet lowered their mowers to summer... More
