The wilderness, fishing, hiking, camping is beautiful. But it is not a place to travel to if you are a single female or even in a group. If you are going to go, make sure you are armed as the locals prey on women. I...More

My friend and I went here by mistake, thinking we were at a mountain trail. Still, this was a lot of fun! The trail itself is pretty flat, but be ready to cross streams a bunch of times. Sometimes you need to get creative to...More

As New Mexicans we should be ashamed of what else have done to this state treasure. People have absoutly trashed the river banks. Think city dump with a river running through it. The long standing rule "pack it in, pack it out" does not apply...More

Feels a bit weird as i usually review restaurants... As far as Wilderness areas go, this is excellent: good size, not too many people beautiful mountains and plenty of high trails above treeline. The hiking is not too steep and trails are maintained pretty well...More

We live in Santa Fe about 6 months out of the year and I frequently fish the Pecos. Since it is the closet trout fishing to Santa Fe, there is a fair amount of pressure on the river, but this is offset by very strong...More

This place is excellent. Specifically, we drove down forest road 223 to the iron gate campground then hiked down to the Pecos river (about 3 miles). Very secluded area. We carried a fishing pole and my wife caught a rainbow trout. Good day.

Easy Trails #25 and 26; not too steep. Beautiful scenery. Forest, meadows, river and high rocky mountains above, some snow-capped.
