The Pinelands NR was established by Congress in 1978, and is the nation's first national reserve. It contains Wharton State Forest, Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, Bass River State Forest, and Penn State Forest. All of which I have visited and can be reviewed on TA. There is a multitude of things to do and see. Great fun for the history buff or the adventurer. You can hike short to long trails, including the 50 mile Batona trail (Back-TO-NAture) There are fresh water lakes with bass and pickerel amongst other fish and brackish rivers (Wading, Batso, Mullica, etc) that run out, eventually, to the sea. Depending on where you enter, you can catch bass or crabs! You can swim, kayak, canoe, camp, backcountry camp at Mullica River Wilderness campground that you can hike or kayak to.. you can horseback ride, pick wild blueberries, and visit the monument of the Mexican Hindenburg at the Carranza Memorial. There are historic villages like Batsto and cranberry bogs like Whitesbog. In fact, most cranberry production is done in the Pines! Always be mindful of the wildlife and if you're driving in the woods, beware the ruts and mud puddles made by illegal bikes and trucks. I love living and playing in the Pines. A National Preserve in my own backyard.. Oh and watch out for the Jersey Devil :P
