Enjoyed wonderful adventure thanks to great bike trail conditions, fun village breaks, and a wonderful stay at the Andor Wenneson Inn (Peterson). Tips... BIKING By staying in Peterson, split the round trip trail adventure into two beautiful and significantly different legs and no need for a shuttle: * Peterson-Fountain is nearly 50 miles round trip. Fairly flat until approach to... More

We stayed in Lanesboro, MN (awesome little town to stay and play) and rode the entire trail in two days. The section from Preston to Harmony is not as well maintained and is hilly but still enjoyable. Lanesboro and other small towns along the way offer a lot of interesting stops. Paved trail and suitable for all skill levels.

The Root River State Trail system and connecting Preston-Harmony Trail is a very good, scenic trail system. It is paved (asphalt) for the entire length and mostly in good condition. There are a few stretches between Peterson and Rushford that are a little bumpy and in need of repair. Much of the trail is very flat and good for casual... More

A perfect day for riding on this trail, which follows along the river. We started at Harmony and rode down to Lanesboro, about a 24 (?) mile ride, mostly downhill. Parts of the trail had restored prairie along the edge which added to the trip. There are kiosks in places along the trail that dispense air and offer a few... More

Made a special trip just to ride this trail after research and reading reviews. We were not disappointed in the least. We dropped a vehicle in Whalan and rode from Fountain east approximately 16.5 easy miles. This was the best part of our plan as the first 5 miles were downhill! We literally had to lightly pedal only twice over... More

We had a beautiful weekend to ride the trails, we stayed in Lanesboro and although I was leary of the ride out to Rushford because of distance it was a really easy and smooth ride. The path between Peterson and Rushford was a little bumpy and rough, but still rideable.

Most of the trail was a lovely view of the Root River & stone bluffs along with farm homes and interesting barns. Except for a rough few miles to Rushford, the trail was a smooth, new surface for the miles we traveled. We appreciated having very few road crossings and the new bridges were great too!

Yeah, it sounds a little grandiose, but we really enjoyed our day on this lovely bicycle (mostly) trail. Just enough hills to get your heart racing once in awhile without having to fear a full cardio event, great variety of surroundings, and well maintained. I even won the "How many bridges have we crossed?" contest with my wife. What a... More

We are casual riders and really enjoyed the trail, riding from Lanesboro to Preston and back and then to Whalan and back. It's paved all the way and mostly flat with just a few small hills as the trail is an old RR right of way. It's very scenic and we'll maintained. Can't wait to ride some more of it... More

This is a beautiful trail. Nice and long with small towns at regular intervals where you can stop for a meal or a snack or something to drink. We stayed in Preston which was a good middle of the trail location.
