We camped here the 2nd week in September with our grown sons. We were in the upper campground. Bathrooms were old but clean. We loved kayaking Lake Carlos and the sons kayaked Long Prairie River that starts at Lake Carlos. They enjoyed it with the many conduits to go through and the winding river through the farmlands. We cooked over... More

Crowded campsites, lots of weeds, and an extreme party atmosphere. People were walking around with beer cans at midday as if the staff didn't care.

We went rockhounding on the beach at the lower campground. It seemed like a real party atmosphere-too big and too many people with too much gear. The type of atmosphere I would have sought out before I had children. The upper campground seemed to be the place for a quiet family camping experience. This is a pretty place in an... More

This park is clean and has large sites. Mostly open, not a lot of shrubs or trees between sites on both the upper and lower campground. The lower campground is on Lake Carlos. Be aware that if you take a site on the outside of the loop near the trees/woods you will definitely be bothered by Mosquitos. Other people said... More

I came here for a solo hike in August and to check the park out. I was impressed by the lake in general. The park had a really nice beach and some great looking campsites. The hiking club trail had some nice hills and some even nicer views of the area. There seemed to be a lot of flora I... More

We recently spent a few days "pontooning" on this lake. Depth clarity was around 10-12 feet. Lots of drop offs to explore for fishing. Tons of sunnies.. although most were too small to keep, with the clarity, it was fun to watch them come at the bait. It was fun to access the other lakes on the chain via the... More

Stayed at the lower campground and loved being right on the water. It was a little windy, but that helped keep it cooler and the bugs away. Campground is clean and quiet with direct access to the water. We didn't swim due to swimmer's itch, but that wasn't stopping too many peole!!

The lower campground is very clean and shaded in the spring and summer. The lake access in the lower campground is unbeatable. While the lake is now infested with zebra mussels and milfoil, the DNR is on hand in the area so your boat can be cleaned. We camp there every year and have always enjoyed our stay.
