...meant we had the whole place to ourselves. The mist and tranquillity made for a very atmospheric experience. It is an easy walk from the car park area but slippy when wet so sturdy walking boots are recommended.

Beautiful place to hike. Easy trail to walk or jog. There are some stairs but I saw many families with strollers and they had no problems. It’s one mile in. Worth the hike. Beautiful waterfall and streams. There is a section where you can get...More

Nice, easy walk in the woods of about 1 mile to the falls. Boardwalks with scenic platforms to view the falls.

This is a great short walk in the woods to a beautiful overlook showing you multiple views of the many waterfalls at Moxie Falls. As you get closer to the actual falls, there are wooden boardwalks to make the walking easier.

Nice, peaceful, easy walk of about a mile. The cascade and falls are nice, even in the fall when water levels are not at their highest.

Beautiful! Easy 20 hike. Platforms to view falls. Lots of young people trekked down to river and were jumping in. Oh to be young again!

Need itinerary advice for Maine/ NH vacation (6 Replies)
We are taking my parents on a trip at the end of September/ beginning of October for 7-10 days. This is my dad's retirement trip so I don't want it to feel too rushed or hurried. Our goal was to see some light houses, ride a train, see the national/ state parks, eat some good food. We will also have 2 kids (4 and 2 y/o) with us. This is what is on our list to see. Can anyone tell me if I should skip something? Is there anything in between we are missing? Are the islands similar enough we only...More

Do you have a day by day plan? Some of these things are pretty far apart. And some things are much harder and take much time to do. As for the islands off the Maine coast, they are very different one from another. For example Little Cranberry is mostly flat and largely a working island of lobstermen. Monhegan Island has Cliffs and about 2/3 of it is wilderness with hiking trails. Visiting Monhegan pretty much takes up a full day or, better, an overnight and parts of two days. Little Cranberry...More

Moxie Falls Mount Kineo Moose? (1 Reply)
Hello there! I've read about Moxie Falls and Mount Kineo and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how long (and hard) these hikes are? Also, what are the odds of seeing Moose in late July?

Moxie Falls is three and a half miles and is an easy hike. Kineo is 4 miles and is a little harder, but would not be considered difficult to someone who is used to hiking............HOWEVER, Kineo is only accessible by boat. There is a shuttle that goes every hour or so from the public landing in Greenville (small fee). If you entertain any ideas about renting a canoe, or bringing one, be advised that Moosehead can get VERY rough and people do drown there when their small watercraft overturn....More
Acadia, Highlands, Portland, Bangor, etc (1 Reply)
My husband and I will be in Maine next month from June 22nd-July 4th. We are staying on Mt Desert in a cabin from the 25th until the 2nd, Sat-Sat ( so we will get to do whale watching, Acadia, and things like that). *We are flying into Bangor and leaving out of Portland We will have 3 nights and days before and 2 days after until we fly out of Portland. I have looked at the Millinocket area, and Baxter State Park, but it seems like a very arduous journey with how "off the grid" it seems...More
