I come here every year and go camping! I love all the caves and the nooks and crannies to go through. The walk is long but peaceful and the views are AMAZING!

In a state that seems to be covered in corn and soybeans from one end to the other this park is a complete surprise. Driving down into the forest you begin to notice the limestone bluffs crop up around you. By far the most interesting...More

This is my all time favorite place to go caving. Tours are usually self guided unless you arrange for a guided tour. The camp sites are cozy with nice restrooms. There are so many different caves, a Ridgeline trail and a prairie trail. It is...More

Current Itinerary: Day 1: Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium Maquoketa Caves State Park Dinner at Zombie Burger Lab - Des Moines Sleep...More

If you are going to pick one thing to do in Dubuque the Museum is a good choice. If you can spare a little more time I would recommend driving up to Eagle Point Park overlooking the lock and dam with incredible views of the river. A quick ride up the bluff on the elevator at Fenelon Place for more views and a fun experience would be something to think about as well. Although, remember it's a solid 3 hours from Dubuque to Des Moines and with a stop in Maquoketa it could be a late burger. The...More
