We went to the trail head off Hwy 75. You start at about 7,000 Feet and go up to 9,000 Feet and then descend to Titus Lake at 8800 Feet. You should be in shape to hike but not an expert. Take water and walking stick. Take your time about 1.5 hours and 1.5 miles back to lake. The wild flowers are unbelievable and the scene of the mountains is breathtaking. This lake is the only one which is glacier feed and therefore Green in color.

You will be tired but happy about the hike and ready for some serious eating.

September 2009. We drove over the Galena Summit on our way to Stanley, Idaho and the Bountiful and Fast Moving Salmon River. Galena is a mineral lead sulfate. The Galena Summit is off of State Highway 75. About 75 miles Northwest of Ketchum and Sun Valley. The Summit rises to 8,700 feet (On Boulder mountain) and you get a panoramic view of the the Northern Ketchum/Sun Valley area and on the Northwest side, a view of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. The highest higway summit in the Northwest. There are some cyclist who scale the beast, but roads are narrow at times, windy, the possiblity of falling rock so take caution.
We found it a bit dicey because of the curves and steepness both going North and returning South from Stanley. During the winter months the Summit can close due to the snow. The from the Galena Summit is splendid and worth the trip up the summit. We recommend the trip over the Galena Summit!

Note - this is a review for the summit, not the lodge (it has its own reviews). The summit is gorgeous and an easy drive from Ketchum and Stanley. Best views are near sunset and sunrise. Watch out for animals along the way. We were stopped by deer in the road (especially at night) a couple times. Beautiful views with a couple of pullouts near the summit.

On our drive from Twin Falls to the Tin Cup Trailhead, we made a quick stop at the Galena Summit Overlook. It was around 8 am, the temperature was around 25 and it was quite windy on Tuesday, 9/8. There was no one around and there was plenty of parking.

The views don't really do the Sawtooth Mountains any justice. We opted to hike to Alice Lake to get better views of the Sawtooth Mountains.

Large pull-out area - do not trust your GPS as it tells you the actual summit versus the parking area for the view. The view is wonderful.

Galena Summit is about a 30 minutes north of Ketchum on Hwy 75. The higher elevation provides great cross country skiing & snowshoeing during the winter and biking & hiking during the summer. The rustic historic lodge offers breakfast & lunch, great home made comfort foods!! You can bring your own skis/snowshoes or rent them at the lodge from their helpful staff. The area is beautiful, bring a camera, the roads & trails are well maintained & marked. The extensive trail system allows miles of exploration, you can buy a day ski pass for $17.00, snowshoe pass for $5.00, or a multi day pass. Even if there are many others there it never seems crowded ....you may not see anyone for awhile while out on the trails !! There are yurts for rent....ski or hike to them. Galena Summit is a fun place to visit near Ketchum!!!!

Since my very first glimpse of the Sawtooth Range from the Galena Summit pullout, I've marveled at the beauty and majesty of this scene. It calls my name again and again. I'm sure my wife is tired of me prophesying that the day will come that this region will be added to the National Park system.
One of the marvels of this region is how the scenery changes each of the 365 days of the year. I never get over the beauties of each and every season. This year, we visited in October. The leaves were in full splendor. The air was crisp and clear. Even the deer and moose seemed bold and proud to pose for pictures in such magnificent settings.
This spot... Galena Summit is one of my top 5 favorite scenic views in all the western United States!
Can’t wait to get back there again.

The road to the summit from both the North and South are full of curves, so it's a little hard to see the views, but just North of it is a large parking area where you must stop to take photos of the jagged peaks and enjoy the fantastic views.

This place is absolutely beautiful. Be down for a long drive and road trip and it’s 100% worth it! Elevation just below 9,000 at this point!

Pretty drive from Ketchum. Historic cabin serving food and rental of snowshoe and cross country equipment. Looks like a popular and well run operation. Unfortunately we did not have enough time to try, but will be back.
