We recently visited the White River National Forest and admired the beauty of the Continental Divide; the Independence Pass, San Isabel Pass, the fragile world of the tundra, Roosevelt national park and much more. All the views are absolutely beautiful. America's national parks are wonderful. They are vast paces of land; some of them are as big as some European... More

We stayed in Chapman Campground on site #17. The campsite is located right next to a beautiful river. I believe it is call "Frying Pan River". I've heard the fishing is great in this area. There are approximately 4 or 5 spacious sites on that particular strip. This site had its own bear box, which was nice. They do have... More

Watch out for the potholes in the parking lot, but enjoy the uphill hike. Simply a beautiful walk with lots of local and their dogs around. My son and his dog and I enjoyed the walk.

My friends living in the area took me on a hike here and it was beautiful. We were here in mid July and it was lush green and full of different flowers. . The views were wonderful The hike is up and down hill and even a few small steams to pass (no ore than ankle deep with stones to... More

We camped up on maroon creek drive in the Silver Bells campground. It was amazing. There was a rushing river behind us and beautiful mountains all around. We even got to see a brown bear! The restrooms are vaulted (no running water) but the campsites are awesome. We stayed three nights and wanted to stay a fourth but they were... More

This is our second visit - this time in the spring. We were hoping to see wildflowers instead of fall colors, which we did. Once again, we stayed in Avon in the Vail Valley. Both the ranger in the national forest and local residents gave us a list of their favorite hikes. Some hikes go through the aspen groves, some... More

No Parks fees, lots of dirt roads, but good roads to drive on. Amazing views, lots of Aspens, close to Vail and Beaver Creek.

The White River NF area is still fairly remote and less crowded compared to other Colorado locations. We typically camp at the Chapman Campground which sits right on the Frying Pan River as it runs into the Ruedi Reservoir. I have never seen it crowded. We typically caught our fish limit by lunch every day. Wonderful location to get away... More

We are staying in Avon in the Vail Valley. Both the ranger in the national forest and a local resident gave us a list of their favite hikes - especially now the fall colors are in full ffect. Some hikes go through the aspen groves, some on cliff edges with vallley views and the Eagle Nest wilderness gets views across... More
