This was a more challenging of the parks as the signs for points of interest seemed to elude us. There were many "don't miss" sights, but we missed them... even using the map that was available at the beginning of the drive. The drive is beautiful and the giants are spectacular.

Nice to see these majestic, old trees - so sad that they will soon be gone if mankind doesn't stop cutting them down. There's not as many of them as you would expect, but it is very awe-inspiring to stand next to one of them. I definitely recommend taking the trip to see these while you are in the area.

We took the kids here while camping in California. This drive is fairly south, depending on what area of the Redwoods you want to see, but definitely worth an extra drive! The shops along the route are a throwback to the 60s (?) when it became an attraction. They are all so charming. This attraction has an auto tour, with... More

These trees are just breathtaking! My kids aged from 12 down to 5 and each of them throughly enjoyed seeing these on our road trip! There were many places to stop and get out to take pictures, have lunch or a snack etc. They are Giants in ever sense of the word!! I would definitely go back to hike in... More

After driving Highway 101 through the National Redwood Forest we thought the Avenue of the Giants would be more of the same, but it wasn't. It was so worth the extra trip! We drove through with the top down on our convertible and that made it all the more awe-inspiring to see these incredible giant trees. This is a must... More

This in my opinion is an absolutely must do if you are in the area. It is easy to find off the 101, well marked with signs. It is definitely slower than the 101 but the 31 miles of Redwoods is truly worth seeing. Leave plenty of extra time because there are some things worth stopping to see. The 31... More

This is the 1st chance to see the Coastal Redwoods while driving Hwy 101 north from San Francisco. There are many more chances to come, but this is an iconic tourist area. The road is very narrow 2 lane section of the former Hwy 101 (before widening in 1960) that runs 31 miles through Humboldt Redwoods State Park as St.... More

If you want to spend time enjoying the trees, this is the way to travel - off the main highway. It gives you innumerable spots to jump out and pose with your favorite tree(s). Be sure and stop at the visitor center about halfway through. There is lots of history of the area, lots of books to check out, and... More

This is very much a Grand Canyon type experience. You may driven three tree tunnels before, this is more like a tree cathedral. Trees up to 2000 years old and 300 feet tall. Just can't image it you have to go stand as an ant to this mighty giants. Do not rush it, the avenue is some 36 Miles long.... More
