We have camped twice at el capitan with a group of 60 persons. The group sites are spacious and can fit big groups. Hot coin showers are available which is a plus. The restrooms are not cleaned often enough, that's the down side. Also, if you are a light sleeper, the train whistle might wake you up at early morning... More

This is a state beach campground with many RV sites (I think all of them are no-hook up) and camping. Very good bathrooms. Super kid-friendly with lots of family action / grilling when we were there. Some sites on the campground overlook the beach, but not all. It's too expensive for no hook up (I think it was 45$), beach... More

Pros: beautiful wooded tent sites and spots for smaller RV's within the four camping loops. If you're lucky, you'll get a spot with ocean views. Great bicycling and hiking along the bluff trails. Secluded picnic spot with tables right along the ocean. Group camping spots at the upper bluff area that looked great. If you're group camping, they'll even open... More

The camping grounds is ok, just don't reserve one one the east side if possible. Our site was approximately 100 yards from the highway, making it noisy throughout the day and night. Try to get closer to the ocean. The site are free of highway noise and the views are fantastic. The nature trail is nice 30min-1hr walk, and is... More

We just came back from our 3 night camping trip to El Capitan Campground. Unfortunately it rained most of the weekend but we made it the best we could. We don't own our own trailer so we went with a 101 rental trailer that was dropped off at the site we were staying at which #39. It is so green... More

We booked a site at El Capitan a week before our weekend trip and somehow got the best site in the campground. I don't know how we did it but the camping gods we smiling down on us. Site #84 has breathtaking views of the ocean, a very large sized lot, and equal shares of sun and shade. We had... More

So this is supposed to be a beautiful California state park right on the ocean right? Well, if you have a RV such as a Motorhome, you are assigned to a parking lot right next to very noisy highway 101. I wish we could hear waves and not trucks and trains. No electricity, no water, no dump station and all... More

In reading some of the recent reviews, just wanted to clarify. There are no hook ups and no dump station. There is an area to fill your water tanks on your rig, and the nearest dump station is about 10 miles in Goleta. Generators are welcome, but only during certain hours. Hope this is helpful.

We camped there the week after Christmas. This time of year there were plenty of spaces and we did not have reservations but reservations are required from early spring to late November. Pet friendly but no dogs on the sand, however leashed dogs seem to be allowed on the trails above the sand. We stayed in a 24 foot C... More

There are several camping beaches within a few miles of El Capitan State Beach. This is by far the nicest, quietest and has the best camping sites. There are sites for RV's but you would have to check to see if generators are allowed. I didn't hear any. El Capitan is a rocky beach with coastal cliffs and enough sandy... More
