After taking Cascades from Vancouver BC to Portland, took Starlight a few days later to San Francisco. Scenery is nice but not like through Canadian Rockies. If traveling Amtrak definitely go business class or a sleeper; far more comfortable and better service, without being too...More

Thinking about a backpacking type of trip. Los Angeles to San Luis Obispo. Then to a national Park for a day of hiking, one night in a hotel, and then back to LA. The train web sites are all confusing. How long is the train ride? How close are hotels and hiking to the train station? Thanks for the help.
