Staff were very friendly and helpful. The coaches are getting a bit worn, but it's still much more comfortable, safer, and nicer scenery than driving I-5 in Oregon. The snack bar had decent offerings, if a bit expensive. But diner car lunch was pretty bad,...More

This was our fourth long distance train and we really enjoyed the scenery. After attempting to find out from Amtrak if the bedroom window always faced the coast, I just gave up. Well, we traveled from LA to Portland and the bedroom faced the coast....More

The worst news is that the Parlor Cars which used to be one of my favorite parts of this train are no more! Rumor has it the company sold them off. A sad decision if it is true. However, the Amtrak menu has improved since...More

Coast Starlight only follows the Pacific from Oxnard to San Luis Obispo, so you miss the stunning coast by San Simeon, Big Sur and Carmel/Monterey. A landslide closed Hwy 1 in Big Sur awhile ago, I don’t know of it has... More
