About 2.5 hours around the entire lake with 2 dogs. Realized approx 65% of Donner Lake is not public accessible. I started on the east end and access is Donner Memorial State Park. Love this State Park and have no problem paying the $10.00 day use fee. But if paying the $10.00 doesn't fit you budget, park on Donner Pass... More

We visited both Lake Tahoe and Donner Lake and had a great time at both places, however we actually prefer Donner Lake because it has more variety. We were not able to rent Kayaks at Tahoe because it was too windy, however even though it was windy at Donner Lake there is an area where the wind is not too... More

We rode our bicycles around this lake in late June and it was beautiful. We discovered Donner Memorial State Park which has 150 camping sites and a huge long beach area with picnic tables and trees for shade. Around the other side of the lake we found small docks that are there for the public to use, 1st come 1st... More

Donner Lake is beautiful but unfortunately no one seems to have had the forethought to protect the lakeshore from privatization, so that the lake is mainly inaccessible to the public. Most of the lakeshore is private property and docks. So there is no where to enjoy the lake. On the east side, there is state park but being winter I... More

In my most humble opinion, Donner Lake is one of the most overlooked jewels in the Reno/Tahoe area. Everyone wants to go to "The Lake (Tahoe)", or to Reno. Meanwhile, they drive by on I 80, one of the most beautiful lakes in the region. Lake Tahoe suffers from overcrowding, if you don't believe me, try driving through Tahoe City... More

Went here for a swim event with my husband. So many people out and about enjoying themselves, feels like a real summer camp atmosphere (upscale though - lots of people with lots of money, that was clear). I wouldn't have wanted to swim in the water because I prefer clearer water, but people really didn't seem to care! (I am... More

Whether you are a catch and release fisher or a catch and eat fisher the docks are a great place to get your trout fishing time in. Get there early as some of the locals get to thinking the docks are theirs alone. Stop at the Mountain Hardware store the day before to get the bait you will need and... More

Great sunrise for Christmas 2014. Very cold but no snow. Chilled inside a cabin near the lake and played games. Relaxing
