S&E Outfitters are the best
Jun 2021 • Solo
Went into the marble mountain Wilderness this week courtesy of S&E Outfitters. A truly professional outfit, reliable and takes care of every detail. Their horses behaved wonderfully when someone else's dog decided to run at us. The Marble Mountain Wilderness is not overused and is gorgeous. 2 other parties at the lake I stayed at for 6 days. Duane has great recommendations on places to go. Trails are moderately steep and it's wonderful to have a horse carry your gear in. Duane and Robert are the best.

Great Pack Trip
Jun 2021
Four of us visited the Marble Mountain Wilderness area in late June. We hired S&E Outfitters to carry our heavy gear and food both in and out (total of two trips), and we walked. Optionally we could have come on horseback. We had decided on a special lake as our destination. The owner Duane Eastlick picked a beautiful campsite for us - it was heaven!!! The entire 5 days we saw only a few people. There was another party at our lake but they were far away and out of earshot.

We saw many deer, a large cinnamon-colored black bear (across the lake), and there was a terrific osprey fishing in our lake almost every day. We saw a number of fish too. Note, black bears in this area are not habituated to human food, so are shy of humans.

We’ve packed for many many years in the Sierra and Yosemite, and just recently in the Trinity Wilderness. All these places are gorgeous but much more crowded than Marble Mountains!

Duane was super responsive by phone and text. Everything he said checked out. He was early and prepared at the trailhead for the in-trip and arrived early at our campsite for the out-trip. He was friendly and easy to work with. Of the many packers we have used over the years, Duane stands out due to his solid reliability and know-how.

Duane’s animals were beautiful and well-behaved. He and his wrangler rode horses and led the mules with our gear. He carries a sat phone for any emergency which we appreciated since we do too; he gave us the correct numbers to call to enable good support in case we needed to call. He’s respectful of the Forest Service rules and procedures- a steward of this beautiful back country.

We took a day hike up to the PCT, a delightful hike with views galore.

Working with E&S Outfitters makes getting into the back country a joy! We highly recommend contacting them to optimize your experience. His rates are reasonable and it's worth every penny!

wilderness in Northn Cal. with out the crowds
Jul 2014 • Friends
We have had 3 trips in the Trinity, Marble Mountain Wilderness area.......back packing is fabulous,
uncroweded especially in June and July, Beautiful wildness , mountains, waterfalls, and wildlife.

Each time we had SandEoutfitters...... Duane Eastlick and Ken Smith, great outfitters in Ft Jones Ca, for bringing in camping, hunting, backpacking gear to the high country alpine lakes on their great horse team and mules. A whole new way for us to camp.....arriving at camp not exhausted to do fabulous day hikes. they haul up the tents, stoves, and heaviest gear and we just bring our days clothes, and snacks. It truely makes getting into the back country a joy! I highly recommend looking them up early in your high country reservations......they make the experience great, easy, let you enjoy your hike or ride in!

Beautiful country

I have camped in this wilderness for a week each of the last two Septembers. The scenery is great and there are many good places to camp. By September it isn't real crowded, especially if you go in several miles as we did with the help of a local outfitter. the weather was great both years. Lots of good hiking trails. But if your going for fishing, best to go somewhere else as it was disappointing both years.
