This spectacularly beautiful resort lake, with over 70 miles of shoreline, offers two "faces:" family-style on the California side and high-rise casinos on Nevada's side.

- Patty Kanyaporn390 contributionsReflections of a Timeless Tea House Memories at Tahoe LakePlanning your photography trip to Tahoe Lake is not just a visual journey; it’s a celebration of nature’s artistry, where every click of the shutter captures a moment of serenity and splendor. Embrace the challenge of distilling the essence of this alpine wonder into your frames, and let the magnificence of Tahoe Lake unfold through your lens. On the isolated island, nestled amidst the shimmering waters of Emerald Bay, the ruins of a small stone building stood defiant against the passage of time. The locals spoke in hushed tones about the enigmatic structure known as the “Tea House,” a relic of a bygone era. The once-majestic building, with its crumbling walls and weathered facade, whispered tales of a remarkable woman named Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight, the former owner of Vikingsholm.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 28, 2024

The sheer size of the lake truly amazed us; it was immense and incredibly beautiful. Driving around Lake Tahoe took us hours to complete the trip. Every viewpoint around the lake was worth stopping at to enjoy the mesmerizing blue color of the lake. Though we wished to stop at each one, it would have consumed an entire day. Therefore, we decided to halt at Emerald Bay, a river bend resembling a circular bay with a small island at its center. This spot stood out among the other viewpoints for its remarkable beauty. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there, as it offered one of the most breathtaking views we've ever experienced in the United States. We highly recommend visiting Lake Tahoe if you're in California. However, be sure to set aside a full day, as the lake is truly vast and every minute spent there is worth it.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 19, 2024
- B d AAthens, Greece1,006 contributionsoverwhelmingA complex and not necessarily higly subtle high elevation water repository. Mostly in California, but the best is the leat accessible northern part and the steep falaise side flanks. The southern "Las Vegas" terroir type is absolutely unbearable. Othersise is am uphill-downhill dramatic scemery that allows for much.It is at a 2.000 m. elevation with depth and fish richness and a Norwegian textur and habitat. Fortunately it has not been entirely given to development. Hotels and restaurants when less studded the better occupying the northwest. Few lakes offer such contrasting views. I’m a middle class guy, I work long hours and love my job. At the same time I can afford whatever I like, I’m grateful and blessed and I’m not even religious! But wow! Lake Tahoe is ONLY for the Wealthy, it’s so sad that a place of beauty is out of reach for community members like myself. It’s a disappointing 1 star review.

It is a beautiful lake in a beautiful setting, but you are unlikely to see much of it. You will spend most of your time stuck in traffic and searching for a parking space. If you do, by some lucky break, find a parking place, there won’t be any space on the beach unless you arrive around 6 am. Good luck.

While we were waiting in line to get in, my in laws were trying to find a bathroom (I was driving) when the park ranger yelled “get the f&@k back in your car!” They don’t speak English. Right when it got to us he said parking was full. We asked to speak to the park ranger. His name was B Hently. The answer then changed and he said we couldn’t get in because we didn’t have a kayak. But some cars ahead of us went in without one. We pressed it further, but he said “mind your own business”. Then when my family tried to call authorities, they gave the ranger my wife’s number and he called her and tauntingly asked “miss, are you just sour because we didn’t let you into the park?”
At this point I’m really trying to seek some justice here. I’ve tried reaching out to their social media but no answer. It felt like my family was intentionally singled out and mocked, and they were not allowed to follow through with their plans that they’ve been looking forward to all year. They’re incredibly distraught by this whole ordeal.

This is one of the most attractive tourist points of the USA, situated across two states - California and Nevada. Kings Beach is famous for boating and watersports. Children as well as adults find the Mini Golf Course very entertaining and interesting. We stayed at Brockway Springs near Kings Beach on North Lake Tahoe, and drove via Tahoe Bolvd to the Emerald bay for a cruise in the southern lake shore while returning back to San Francisco bay area.

If you only want to gamble, come anytime. But if you hope to visit most anything cultural or historical, be warned! Literally everything we wanted to see was closed Monday through Wednesday in mid July at the height of the tourist season.
We did take the M.S. Dixie II Lake Tahoe cruise, which was nice. (Pick up bus driver was the best.) Hotels and the cruise were full. But the Lake Tahoe Historical Society museum, TALLAC historic site, Pope Estate, and Taylor Creek visitor Center were all closed the entire time were were in Lake Tahoe area.
Extremely disappointing. You would think they could at least stagger closing days.

Don’t get me wrong, we enjoyed our stay. But unlikely we’d do it again. Our Napa/Lake Tahoe vacation was an add on to a business trip in Sacramento. For the cost of things from water bottles, meals out, food at the grocery store, gondola tickets at Heavenly Mt, tastings in Napa, they were are extremely over priced for the value of the experience. I told my kids I’d much rather have enjoyed a Tybee Island, GA vacation at half the cost.

Yes, it is a beautiful blue lake with large boulders and clear water. That’s it. Totally overflowing. Lake access is almost impossible free of charge. It is collected at every parking lot. The trails are well developed and heavily visited. On weekends, resort prices are hardly affordable. There are more no parking signs than trees. From our point of view, the detour to Lake Tahoe is not worthwhile.

Lake Tahoe is situated in the north east of the California State and a part is in Nevada state. It is a fresh water lake. Many small beaches are there on both eastern and western sides. Tourists used to come and enjoy the place.

We are travelling from Ireland to the Lake Tahoe area in July 2015 . We're not interested in casinos so can you advise which side of the lake to look for residential accommodation that is not in the vicinity of casinos
