Unlike the Nevada side of Lake Mead, Arizona side is clean and full of hidden beaches (4x4 recommended) Princess Beach is very secluded and shallow waters make it perfect for small children. Looked like a party left their mess the night before but it was a very beautiful spot. Kathryn's Landing is really busy but if you're lucky you can find a spot to swim and watch the boats dock in and out. We swam at the point heading to Campsite Cove. Breathtaking views, clean, restroom accessible and the water was so clear you could see right through it. The boats don't go in and out of their so perfect swimming for those who want to swim out. $10 gets you in for the next 10 days! Love this place

Hoover dam is an hour's drive from Las Vegas. A stop over to look at lake 'Mead' takes away all your strain. It's a very calm and serene place for meditation. Also don't forget to carry your own lunch / snacks. Specially if you are driving its good to relax here before hitting the next point. If you have time; you could sight-see the 'Radio & TV' transmitter... Do not forget to capture the intersection of 'Grand Canyon' & Lake mead!!!

The monumental engineering of the Hoover Dam created one of the largest man-made lakes in the world and probably the most-used and appreciated. The drop in water levels is disturbing, but the beauty of the place is unmatched. Stop by the visitor center to see the scale of this attraction.

We thought Kingman Wash would be a good place to set up for a day on the lake. Our plan was some would drive there & the others would bring the boat over. We ignored the warning at the road's head & drove 4 awful miles to the beach. Not much beach. took us 28 Min to go 4 Mi. Hard on our SUV, but we made it. And we made it back. Next time we will go by boat, even if it takes two trips.

Travelling by road from Flagstaff Arizona, to Las Vegas we detoured to see this great engineering marvel. The site is massive, awe inspiring. The very concept is breathtaking. How many nations have had the energy and enterprise to turn a vast wasteland into a thriving region? The dam provides electricity and water downstream for several states and Mexico. Tours are available on site as are food, refreshment and souvenirs. Tourists were everywhere enjoying the site when we were there. I read about the Hoover Dam as a child and am glad that I have been able to visit it.

Lake Mead itself is quite a sight, and well worth a stop off on the way to the Hoover Dam - you may as well see how everything is connected.

We were there in August and the heat was intense - the staff at the visitor centre were advising people not to attempt any hikes or treks. We took in the views and didn't do any more. That was enough, however, as the desert scenery is pretty stunning.

Thoroughly recommend the little visitor centre - some excellent displays on the local wildlife and environment and nicely interactive for the kids. The staff were helpful and understandably proud of their service. Travelling with children, you unwillingly become a bit of a gift shop expert and this place had some intriguing stuff!

the lake is still a stunning view to look at. but to the locals it is a very sad site. the water level is so low it is no longer the boating happy experience now you have to make sure where you are going as it drops lower all the time and one trip to the next is nail biting.

We had a trip onto the lake on the desert princess, it took about 90 mins in total and we got to see the Hoover dam from the water. It's well worth a trip into the lake as it gives good photography views of the dam. The cost was included with the Hoover dam tour from gray line tours (see separate review). Total tour cost $115 each.

We drove through the area on our way back to Las Vegas.
A really pleasant relaxing drive through some rugged back country. It is not terrifically colorful like the Valley of Fire but still enjoyable.
You can make some stops to get to Lake Mead but we chose not to.
