We went to the Iditarod Trail HQ whilst we were staying in Palmer Alaska. Good afternoon trip. Had a dry run sledge dog trip which was mushed by the son of the man who started the iditarod Race!! Held a cute 9 day old Huskie puppy. The shop/ museum is interesting with history of the Dog Sldge Races and calender of future events.
We had a great time all round in Alaska and our best adventures were the Glaciers in Seward, the shooting at Talkeetna and Midnight Baseball Game Fairbanks.
We stayed in Fairbanks at a lovely log cabin for 2 nights by the river called Riverbend Log Cabins - the host was great. Then we stayed at the Aurora express for 2 nights - a really unusual set of railway carriages up in the hills with spectacular views over the valley. Buffett breakfast. Whole carriage to ourselves. Loved both of them. Highly recommended. Silver Gulch is a great place to eat, massive steaks.
We hired a RV for the 1st week from B&B RV Rental - it was a wreck with no TV/DVD as advertised and then after signing us off as OK on the return they took $200 from our deposit. Do not use them if you are going to hire an RV.
