Holguin is really quaint however first impressions are disappointng., There is not much in Holguin, you need to do one of their bike taxies and getting lost to get the feel of the city. It makes me smile as it reminds me of a wild western town with its horse carriages . But bottom line, Holguin in a stepping stone... More

Holguin is well worth a visit to experience authenticity Cuban city life and Parque Calixto Garcia provides respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.

We sat in this park after a walk around Holguin, it was nice to see the local Cuban people relaxing here. Great to sit in the sun and people watch.

We spent about an hour here on a weekday before dinner, my two kids and I. My husband wanted to explore a bit more on foot but the kids were tired, so we settled onto a bench to play cards. We felt completely safe the entire time and enjoyed making what small talk we can in Spanish with friendly locals.... More

This is the small central plaza in this small Holguin Province. It is a paved area with some trees and benches. The square holds a statue of General Calixto Garcia, a revered patriot during Cuba's independence wars. The square is surrounded by retail and cultural establishments. It is a pleasant stroll to walk the square and the shops on its... More

Another place of history in Holguin. The square is very clean and zero graffiti/destruction on the property. Close to a relatively clean bathroom at LA Begonia. Encountered a few street vendors but a polite no gracias was only needed and they went on their way.

Vendors walking around, locals we got to meet and talk to. Nearby shops which sell many local crafts and products. I would say watch your wallet or purse. One in our party had her cell phone stolen. It was quite scary, the man was caught and beat up by the shop owners, police arrived in moments...so they took care of... More

A bit warm in summer with only minimal shade, but pleasant enough to sit and relax in. Just be warned of being approached by a local who speaks very good English, strikes up a conversation then at the end asked for money to feed his children. We were not the only ones to be approached and given the same story.

Wifi! Brings even the locals out here at night. A big park with some skateboarders but they are very well behaved and had not bothered me at all.
