There is plenty of choice for staying in the Marlborough Sounds from cheap backpackers to luxury hotel and everything in-between. The key is how remote you want to be. We stayed in a comfortable hotel with both road and water access but some distance from the main thoroughfares so it was very quiet and relaxed. If you want to be... More

Go for the mail boat run. The best way to meet the folks that live on this wonderful stretch of god's earth!

According to Maori legend Aoraki, a young boy, and his three brothers were the sons of Sky Father. While canoeing around the earth, their canoe capsized and they climbed on the top side of their boat to avoid drowning. They were turned to stone and the prows of their canoe became the Marlborough Sounds area. Queen Charlotte Sound is the... More

Viewed the Marlborough sounds while getting to and walking the Queen Charlotte track. It's beautiful. The views are amazing. It's worth staying on the top deck of the boat, at the cold wind, to see dolphins, seals and the amazing view of the sound.

Marlborough Sounds is a must see !!!!! On a blue sky day on a boat exploring this beautiful place on earth....pull up on an unspoilt beach with a picnic and a bottle of "Wither Hills Savi" Heaven Take a fishing trip or the mail boat and make one of those treasured memories but it does have to be good weather... Great childhood holidays here back when it was ok to paddle off, swim, hike and have fun without parents. Fun and all for free and all gifted by nature. The seafood seems twice the size as everywhere else and twice as abundant. Despite seemingly isolated you are not, there's plenty of traffic and neighbours that visit all by boat, yacht... More

We sailed into Picton on a Christmas cruise with Royal Carribean in 2015. Lovely postcard perfect water features all around and a pretty seaside town centre to go with it. We kayaked the Sound in the afternoon and sampled the local fare to make for a great day out. Too bad the cruise ship had to sail late afternoon. We... More
