Booked from UK as cruise ship due to call and didn't offer any "local" wildlife tours such as this and we didn't fancy a coach trip to Christchurch - our cruise included other NZ cities and this was an opportunity to do something different without any time on a coach. (eg 90 mins to Christchurch) Booking by internet was seamless... More

Toni has refurbished a wooden boat to perfection. He takes a small group and shares the most amazing stories. He is also very respectful of all wildlife and doesn't chase the Hector Dolphins like some of the other boat operators. Yet, the dolphins come eagerly swimming to his boat and stay for a bit so you really see them. With... More

This was an excellent cruise. There were only 10 people on this tour, so there was plenty of room for everyone to see the wildlife. Tony was very respectful of the wildlife and did not chase the dolphins, but let them come to the boat if they wanted to. We saw penguins, dolphins, seals and even a pair of Yellow-Eyed... More

Taking three teenage girls on this wildlife encounter was an amazing experience. One said teenager made the comment that was the first wildlife sightseeing that you actually saw everything that was promised. The up close viewing along with the guides well educated interactive review of not only the history but antidotal stories was marvellous. Thank you Tony, Kaj and Fluffy... More

Yesterday the 4/3 2016 we went for a trip with "Coast up close", and what a trip. Tony, the captain, was so nice and was telling us a lot about the places we seen and about the wildlife. We seen beautiful nature, Dolphins, penguins and so on, all that we expected, and best of all Tony does it in the... More

I wasn't sure at first, but the very friendly crew knows a lot, and the trip really was worth it! We saw many different sea animals along the way.

Meet Tony and his boat right on the pier where tender boats arrive. The boat is comfortable with many spots to sit. Tony is knowledgeable about the area. He might need to use a speaker system, so all can hear his commentary. The cute pup rides along as we saw dolphins, blue penguins, and coastal caves.

I thoroughly enjoyed this trip along the edge of the harbour from Akaroa to the big waves of the Pacific Ocean. The boat is small enough to get up close, as advertised, and large enough to be comfortable and feel secure. Tony makes the tour personal as he points out the wildlife and coastal features to everyone on board. He's... More

With great local knowledge we saw Hectors dolphins, penguins, seals, an albatross as well as other birds, a sheep that had managed to get itself stuck on a ledge and krill. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip but do have a few suggestions. Firstly I think they need a PA system as there was so much of what was said that... More

If you want a personalised experience with the guarantee of seeing all the iconic animals, this is the trip to do! My grandparents and my partner and I did this tour while visiting off a cruise ship. The owner/tour guide was so informative about the animals and landscape! Such a great fella with a genuine love for the land! Thank... More
