Overview
More
We started our Akaroa Harbour Nature Cruises back in 1985 and are the original cruise operators so we know the harbour pretty well. Along the way we've been named as the supreme tourism award winner and also hold the Enviro gold award from Qualmark to recognise our dedication to the environment.Your nature cruise will be on the 'Black Cat', a large modern and stable vessel allowing great views of all the scenery and wildlife including dolphins, seals and penguins. If by some chance you do not see dolphins then we will provide a ticket to come again another day. This happens on average 2% of the time across the whole year.We look forward to meeting you and giving you the best stories from the Akaroa Harbour.

Black Cat did a great job with the product they had. The boat was comfortable, the crew was competent, the scenery was great. But I was expecting more dolphins, and more interaction. We glimpsed a total of 9 dolphins, who quickly swam by us. Even...More

We had a great time on this nature cruise! The captain was very knowledgeable and funny. We enjoyed seeing the seals and dolphins, and just enjoyed the views from the boat. I would bring a jacket however. It was very breezy.

Such an incredible 2 hour trip, with an amazing guide (I think he was called Julian!). We saw lots of Hectors dolphins with their babies, the smallest penguins in the world, fur seal colonies with their babies and heaps of other wildlife and interesting sights....More

Just been on the Black Cat cruise in Akaroa... Thoroughly enjoyable having seen Dolphins, Fur Seals and the rare NZ Penguin. Crew were great (despite the captains bad jokes lol) and the complimentary tea, coffee or hot chocolate rounded things off nicely. 100 seater catamaran...More

After listening to the briefing, getting suited up in a thick wetsuit and trooping of to the boat (with obligatory photo), it was off into the bay. And around the bay we went ....and went... and went. Unfortunately the dolphins weren't cooperating and to their...More

We had booked the 'swim with the Hectors Dolphins' with Black Cat. We were all so excited for this experience. Our weather was stormy, however. We arrived a bit early and registered for our adventure. We were to be in the 2nd group of the...More
