Description:

Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions...

Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions and the only World Heritage listed building in the State. The Prison was built by convicts in the 1850s and was used as a place of incarceration for almost 140 years. With solitary cells and gallows Fremantle Prison is a monument to a system of punishment that is uncomfortably recent. Fremantle Prison now holds the key to history, mystery and fun. Step inside and do time with experienced guides on a fascinating Prison Day Tour. Explore the labyrinth of tunnels 20m beneath the Prison by foot and by boat on a Tunnels Tour adventure. Feeling brave? Delve into the darker side of the Prison’s history on an eerie Torchlight Tour.

He has one thousand and one jokes to share with us and I especially enjoyed the cold ones (just kidding) ! He is really engaging and fun, making the tour an enjoyable one. He also took care... More

The Fremantle Prison was the maximum security prison for Western Australia (WA) for over 100 years. It is fascinating to visit. The prison is a work of art, it was completely built by hand by convict labor of limestone and jarrah, a native hardwood. If you take a tour, you will soon get the impression it is a good place... I have to congratulate the people with the foresight to maintain this prison and avoid its destruction. They have kept history alive even though it is not a happy story. I took the 2 hour prison day tour. The tour guide was quite enthusiastic and very happy to answer questions.

Australia's history as a destination for convicts can only be appreciated more by visiting this place. It is just interesting to learn about Australia's past.

It seems a bit odd to be visiting a prison and for a prison to be one of the top attractions (what is so nice about a prison?), but the 'Doing Time' tour (a pity we weren't prepared the 'Torchlight Tour' which was highly recommended by locals we had met) was very interesting and offered a different experience from other... This place is great to get a bit of history and an idea of what it's like to be a prisoner. We paid $20 per adult for the first tour (1.15hrs). We also did not book ahead. These run fairly regularly also. The guide was very informative and was able to answer any questions we had.

We did the 'Doing Time' tour after not being able to do the tunnel tour due to my pregnancy and it was fantastic! You start off having a wander through the exhibits at the entrance before the tour starts and then its off to see the prison with the group. We started the tour in the 'prisoner reception' area where... More

To history lovers, this is a must visit place which is just walking distance from Fremantle Market. The tour guides are the ex officers which makes the tour much interesting. I enjoyed every bits of the trip inspite of creepy moments.
