Loved the trip over to Rottnest from Fremantle, I am an anxious sea farer but my latest trip instilled that all sea voyages are not the same. I enjoyed my trip to Rotto and back to Freo for the first time in 40 years. Thanks Rottnest Express.

Without advance reservations, I walked to the Barrack Street docks in Perth the morning I wanted to visit and bought my ticket on the spot. I had to choose a later bus tour because those who bought advance tickets filled up the early tour. No big deal, gave me time to wander on my own and have lunch. Clearly marked signage so you knew where to be to return on the ferry.

I booked a ticket for ferry pass with bike hire. I was told to collect my bike from the Jetty. I was not told to collect it from the actual ferry upon docking. By the time i wandered about looking for where to collect it and walked down to the bike hire shack the ferry left with my bike still on board. An almost two hour wait for the ferry to return and a Rottnest Express customer service rep who repeatedly talked over me when I was asking for help made for a really unpleasant experience. Do yourself a favour and hire from the bike shack instead. Friendly staff, just as cheap and a lot easier to deal with.

Hi X4650SYlaurab, We're sorry to hear of the mixup when you were trying to collect your hire bikes. Our hire bikes are required to be carried on the ferry with you to Rottnest Island which is why it is listed on our website to "Collect your bike as soon as you disembark the ferry and ride away!" As the ferry departs Rottnest to return to the mainland an hour after arrival, it is necessary to collect your hire equipment soon as you arrive so the staff onboard make announcements over the PA system advising all guests to collect any equipment upon arrival, regardless of whether it's hire or personal equipment, and it is included on your email confirmation "Upon arrival to Rottnest Island, present your voucher to the Rottnest Express staff on the jetty to collect your hire bike. It is compulsory under Western Australian law to wear a bike helmet so be sure to grab your helmet before leaving the jetty." We do hope you were able to enjoy the rest of your day on Rottnest Island. Thanks, Michelle

Customer Comfort hits Rock Bottom! I Booked a round trip on Rottnest Express Ferry service on Sunday 26th August 2019, the ferry ride itself was uneventful and did not take very long BUT !!!! The return leg was absolutely devoid of any regard for their 150 or so Paying customers. People started to assemble at the wharf and cue up in an orderly fashion around 30 mins prior to the ferry arriving, there is almost no seating and the Wharf is a good 800Meters from the Hotel and Info centre, so for elderly it would be a chore. Now you would think the passengers returning to Rottnest would alight and then the 150 strong passenger contingent waiting would be ushered on. THAT WOULD BE TO SENSIBLE!!!! Let me preface that it was August and this was the last return Ferry around 6pm and it was WINDY & FREEZING ! The ' Einsteins" from Rottnest express then proceeded to ignore the 150 Freezing passengers standing in the wind and bitter cold and started to load Push Bikes One by One ! I have never seen anything in my Life go this painfully slow! The loading of the Bikes did not affect or have any impact on letting the 150 Freezing people board the Ferry and sit in the warmth of the Boat. 20 to 30 Minutes of single Bike loading continued on as I watched Elderly people and kids complaining about the COLD . WHAT A JOKE ! I implore travellers not to use the ROTTNEST EXPRESS FERRY SERvice because they are either really really 'STUPID" or they don't give a 'Rats" about customer service and comfort. Give them a Miss and try one of the other Ferry Services across . You will be standing on the Wharf waiting for the highly trained ' neurosurgeons " that load Bikes One by One by one ! while you stand watching Freezing. If you have elderly people with you stay near the Hotel until the Ferry is boarding ,there is no where to sit , be warned, PS - Rottnest Island is a nice place to visit , the Pub/Hotel is fantastic! Great BEER! FOOD! and OMG - Great service!

Hi Scoota900, Thanks for your comments from your trip last August. The Rottnest jetty is controlled by the Rottnest Island Authority and unfortunately no ferry operator has control over the Rottnest jetty and the lack of seats or shelter available. As the vista has been heritage listed, we are not allowed to make any changes to the jetty. We're sorry to hear you found the wait on the jetty to be long however whilst the crew are completing tasks outside of the ferry, as there is no supervision onboard the licensed premises, passengers cannot be allowed inside the vessel. The crew do their best to complete these tasks as quickly and safely as possible before immediately boarding any passengers who are waiting on the jetty. The 4:30pm service is normally our last service from the island during winter, however the 6pm service was added the day before due to the unseasonably nice weather that week bringing out lots of additional guests wishing to travel to the island. Unfortunately adding an additional service at 6pm does leave the turnaround time quite short and the onboard GPS tracking equipment does show that the ferry arrived back at Rottnest Island at 5:46pm, where all available crew would have loaded the 29 hire bikes on to the ferry before starting boarding the waiting passengers at 5:57pm to depart the island at 6:02pm. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed the rest of your day on the island. Kind regards, Michelle
