This is a landmark art installation and friendly welcome to Fremantle, situated just off Canning Highway and overlooking Fremantle Port. It is the work of Perth based artist Marcus Canning and was installed in 2016. You'll see Rainbow Sea Container when driving into Fremantle. Or stop for a few minutes for a picture or two if interested.

What you find are 9 recycled sea containers painted in the colours of a rainbow and attached to form a 9 metre tall arch, stretching 19 metres in length. You can park your vehicle in the lot down by the East St. Jetty and make the short 2-3 minute walk up to the grassy stretch alongside the road where you can see and take picture of the Rainbow Sea Container installation.

As you drive along Canning Highway near the bridge this imposing sculpture of colourful sea containers forms an arch on Beach Reserve overlooking the Swan River. It is 9m high, 19m long and weighs 66t and was created by Perth artist, Marcus Canning. The rainbow sea container art was installed in August 2016.

Visited on Thursday 28th November. What a great idea and not to be missed if you want a novel photo to remember your visit to Fremantle.

Large sculpture built from colourful containers, located along the main highway. Creative idea and nice design. It becomes popular tourist attraction among foreigners.

Nice spot for a photo shoot and having picnic.

If you are driving to Fremantle, why not stop by and park you car at Beach Street and walk up a small hill to the containers. Take some pictures here as memories that you have arrived at the Fremantle Harbour.

I've driven past this a zillion times and now I can say that I've been under, through and by it.

I so appreciate art and this is a big thumbs up to Fremantle, because it is engaging and relevant and interesting. I could whip out my art history spiel and then waffle on about aesthetics, but I won't. What I will say is this: good on you Fremantle for doing it.

We need more art in all our cities and this is way better than the token flimsy kangaroos and boomerangs that seem trite, unappealing and often worthless in our towns and cities.

Fremantle is a port town, born and bred on commerce from the ocean. It is colourful. And this pieces is very, very clever. I'll leave others to dissect it in detail. But judging how many Asian tourists were there to take selfies, someone had foresight and vision before commissioning it.

Liked this - great instagram photo opportunity. Not easy to get to though, we walked and wasn't through the best bit of town.

we walked here from the art centre - about 10 minutes or so through (we think) north freo - some great/interesting looking homes en route!

be cautious of crossing the road and its a dual carriage way with slip roads nearby so the traffic is fast moving!

great art installation to look at through, although no interp to tell you about it or what it is etc. we assumed 'inclusivity in freo's history (being a shipping port)?

Wasn't very busy so managed to get some typical tourist snaps though!
