With the right time of day and the correct angle of the sun, the falls will appear bright and will look more voluminous than it actually is. It seems solar noon is the best time to visit the area, and also during the summer season when the sun is to the north of the village. I went during autumn sunrise and the falls looked dry even though water was still falling over the falls.Visited October 2023Traveled soloWritten November 20, 2023
- Kamal PByron Bay, Australia8,398 contributionsStunning vertical cascadeAn uninterrupted fall of a fair column of water over a cliff so high is rather rare in most waterfalls. What I saw in Lauterbrunnen was such a rare sight just by the city itself. It was just walking distance from the railway station where the walk itself was very enjoyable on a sealed road going through grassland like terrain. “Staubbach Fall” was visible from the town itself and it was a matter of walking towards the falls along the beautiful country road. To reach the falls there was a side walk with built access. Falls had a fair amount of water sometimes getting drifted away by the cool strong wind. This at times atomised the column in to a drizzle or spray that drifted a fair distance from its usual landing area at the base. Very picturesque waterfall which we were able to gaze at for a long time.Visited June 2023Traveled with familyWritten March 22, 2024
- talukdersDhaka City, Bangladesh55 contributionsA Wonderful Hanging WaterfallIt was early July'2023; a short walk from Lauterbrunnen train station to experience this amazing #Staubbach waterfall dropping off the mountain cliffs. Next to impossible to comprehend the beauty of fall with a photo-shoot, unless you are there. You can also climb up to the lower end of the fall's cliff. Amazing view through far distance village across the valley and clouds bumping to the icy alps. A must visit place if you are around!Visited July 2023Traveled soloWritten May 24, 2024
- ZandyyLondon, United Kingdom161 contributionsBeautiful placeA stunning waterfall. A huge amount of water falling verically off a cliff. A short walk (10mins start to finish one way) up a hill, through a short tunnel, up stairs and along the cliffside takes you very close to being behind the waterfall - it gets quite wet so dress appropriately. The place is way too popular with tourists though, particularly those intolerable Instagrammers, which is an issue so best tip to avoid them is to go early morning as they seem to be asleep till around 10am. Free admission.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 1, 2024

- Soumya NayakDubai, United Arab Emirates673 contributionsBeautifulIn the Lauterbrunnen town which supposedly has 72 waterfalls, Staubbach might be one of the biggest from what I noticed. The most interesting though is the surrounding area which has amazing landscape & looks soooo beautiful. Also, the steep walk up to reach the space behind the waterfall is tiring but very fulfilling. We couldn't stop clicking photos, every spot & corner seems more beautiful than the previous.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 28, 2024

Lauterbrunnen is a beautiful valley, and the waterfall is nice but I admit was somewhat underwhelmed. It was a wet and slippery climb up then some stairs, very busy and you don't really get any better view from the top than you do from the bottom. I, unfortunately, had high expectations, and while beautiful it just wasn't what I had hoped. I think time of year plays a factor here.

The falls are beautiful and nearly as high as Yosemite Falls, a gorgeous single flight crashing very close to town. It’s a five minute walk to the stairs to the falls, which promise yo take you behind the falls. In the summer, however, prepare to be disappointed. Only a few stray drops are to be seen from the end of an overcrowded and somewhat steep staircase. Nothing prevents you from coming at dawn, however, and having the place to yourself.

It’s a pretty waterfall along with many others along the valley floor. We hiked to the top thinking we were going to actually walk behind the waterfall. We ended up like sardines in a viewing are at the top that was definitely not behind the falls. There was some water coming down but it looked more like rain. Save your time and just enjoy from the bottom then go to Trummelbach Falls!

Located in the picturesque valley of Lauterbrunnen. Park your car in the town and walk to the waterfall. Easy short walk. You can join the visit with the spectacular Trümmelbachfälle and have a lovely day trip.
Because of the direction of the valley, if you want to take photos, better to visit this area in the morning.

Hi, The path begins from the roadside "Alte Stechelbergstrasse" - the road passing the Lauterbrunnen town. It is not far from the town and it is on to your right side. There is a sign board "Staubbach falls" where the path begins.

Do you know the hours? We visited this waterfall before and the little house to get tickets and walk up to the falls was closed. The gate to the path was closed, so we could only see it from a distance. We would like to go back when it is open.

I was there in May and it was also closed for safety reasons. Maybe check out their website for more information.

Is there a public parking in Lauterbrunnen? If so, is reservation needed? is it a whole day parking? or by hour only? Fees? Any information about parking in Lauterbrunnen would be very much appreciated. Thank you!
Written July 2, 2019
There are several public parking lots. On the one I used, directly next to the church and close to the waterfall, there was hourly parking without reservations for 1 CHF per hour I believe.

Just hop on the train to lauderbrunnen! That’s what we did! Once in lauderbrunnen, The train station is about a block away from the falls! It’s an easy and very scenic walk!

What is the price to walk behind the falls?
Written April 6, 2019
Hi there. Sorry for the delayed response, just came from another holiday.... anyhow pertaining to your query: Staubbach Falls itself, going inside the cavern is absolutely FREE! You would love it there. Much recommended to visit if not during the summer, the falls tend to be more in full blast. We were on early August last year, so it was just but a trickle.

Saludos, planifico visitar el lugar en viernes santo. No tengo idea si las atracciones son abiertas al publico o me puedo topar con que los lugares tengan entrada controlada y estén cerradas ese día. De igual manera los trenes. Me podrías ayudar?
Gracias

How is the weather like in Lauterbrunnen during second week of Dec? Would it be a good time to visit the gorgeous falls?
Written November 7, 2017
Agree with the weather. Definitely can walk the trail to the observation platform. If sunny beautiful, but more likely cloudy and cold.

Hi. We are planning to visit Lauterbrunnen this Dec 2017. Hoping to see Staubbach falls from below. With parents and young kids. Is it too far a walk from the train station?
Written August 20, 2017
It is an easy flat walk through and just south of the town. It is less than a mile and should take you around 20 minutes each way.
