We visited during April'22 which was mid of the Spring. The advantages were,
1. Day light was quite long and we had lot of time to explore around.
2. The crowd was reasonable which I believe it's comparatively lower than other seasons.
3. Swiss Alps were covered with snow and gave us lots of picture-perfect photos!
We booked a hotel in the middle of the town on Bed 7 Breakfast basis. It was 5 mins walking to Lauterbrunnen Station and lots of other restaurants. We had a quite a good breakfast at hotel so that we just needed a small supper for lunch. That saved money and time.
We visited Murren on first day. There was a Cable Car service available to the mountain top and from there a mountain train took us to Murren. Murren was a beautiful village which is very close to Swiss Alps. It's good if u love skiing and they has a ski school for all age persons.
From Murren we walked upto Gimmelward which was around 3kms. Surrounding was so beautiful and mesmerizing with uncountable number of waterfalls! From Gimmelward we took the cable car down to Schilthornbahn and from there we took a bus back to hotel.
Day 2 was fully spent on Jungfraujoch, the Top of Europe. We took the Train and mountain trains to reach the top. Jungfraujoch was a surrounded with white mountains and you can study Swiss Alpes, take photos, shop for souvenir and more. Then we took the return trains back to Wengen and walked down to Wengwald station. (~1.5Km)
Had a nice dinner from the town and we left to Lucerne on next day.
Make your hotel reservations as early as possible and if are a nature lover, walk as much as u can. This will save your time and money spent on food.

18 years ago we had visited Lauterbrunnen, and this area of the Swiss Alps, in the Fall. We felt it was one of the most beautiful places on earth. We were so excited to now be able visit in the Wintertime. We started our day visiting the traditional Alpine Lauterbrunnen Village. With the snow-covered mountains as a beautiful backdrop, we enjoyed a leisurely walk through the town and sweet treats at Flavours Restaurant. We then hiked the Lauterbrunnen Valley & rode the gondola to Murren, where we viewed the city of Lauterbrunnen from high above. Still one of the most beautiful places on earth!

A trip of a lifetime was gifted to me by my son Scott and we both were excited to explore Switzerland this October. In speaking with friends who had the good fortune to travel to Switzerland, the fall months of September and October were optimum for weather and least crowded.
We landed in Zurich and rented a car to Lauterbrunnen, our home base for the week. Lauterbrunnen is central to the many activities planned where trains and cable cars would be our mode of transportation. Our rental home backed up to a meadow and had views of the various waterfalls Lauterbrunnen is famous for.
As we arrived early on our first day, we visited the famous Trümmelbach waterfalls first, which was a short drive from our home. There are ten glacial water falls inside the mountain, and a 'lift' which takes you up four levels as the walk is quite steep. From there you can meander up and down to view the magnificent falls.
Our next day had us up bright and early, no time for jet lag, and on our way to The Top of Europe. A magnificent view is all but guaranteed as long as you check weather reports to make sure the clouds have not been predicted.
We toured the Ice Palace with its many ice sculptures and were delighted to see our faithful Fido showcased.
After taking in the Lindt Candy factory, we started our adventure down the mountain which would be different than the gondola ride up!
First, we made our way to Grndelwald and took the First Glider where four brave souls are pulled backwards up the mountain only to be propelled to the starting point at warp speed. It’s an exhilarating ride.
Knievel in me. As I maneuvered my bike past slow pokes in the group, I picked up speed around each turn. I hated for this fun adventure to end. Looking back on the video Scott took, I had to laugh not only about the big smile on my face but how in all actuality, I looked to be moving at a snail’s pace.
Next was riding scooters down the remainder of the mountain. I decided I might break a hip on this one so instead, took the gondola back down and filmed Scott on his scooter journey.
Up early the next day for the James Bond Revolving Restaurant! With a short trip by aerial cableway, we reached the Schilthorn where upon arrival and stepping out into the snow, you can view the beautiful Swiss skyline of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
As thrilling as all that was, our real destination was for us 007 fans, Restaurant Piz Gloria.
Our restaurant with table service rotates around its own axis in 45 minutes, gliding past more than 200 mountain peaks. They offer a wide range of dishes from snacks to regional specialties. If you are looking for a quick snack, the Skyline Take Away is the perfect solution.
Next Day Overnight to Zermatt.
Four trains deposited us in Zermatt for our Matterhorn excursion. Hotel Albatross was our one-night stay with views of the Matterhorn from our rooms.
The most popular way to see the Matterhorn in Zermatt is to take the train up to the Gornergrat Bhan. Getting an early start is key as to get the best views with various walking paths and photo ops along the way.
An avid YouTube watcher and planner of the trip, I found an amazing restaurant, just a 30-minute walk down the mountain. Chez Vrony is exactly the type of restaurant you would like to see in the middle of the Swiss Alps. We sat outdoors with the Matterhorn view and had the best fondue ever. The steep hike back up, not so much fun, but we made it!
Back in Lauterbrunnen, we enjoyed a relaxing day of walking through the town, sampling restaurants and picking up souvenirs as the next day was tandem paragliding….yes, another bucket list.
We were meeting in the sweet village of Mürren where we would walk up the mountain to our ‘runway’ of sorts to set sail over the valley below. My ‘pilot’ was fun and enthusiastic and filmed our adventure. Without a care in the world, I found myself running down the mountain on command until I could no longer feel the earth beneath my feet. That was it, I was flying.
Words cannot describe the freedom of flying over the Swiss Alps. Once Scott and his ‘pilot’ were airborne, we followed them near sheer cliffs and over treetops. All too soon we were coming in for a landing where I simply stood up when instructed. And that was it. Safely back on Terra Firma, but head still in the clouds.
The Swiss love their dogs. We saw many over the course of the week we were in Switzerland, in outdoor restaurants, trains and gondolas. As pet lovers, we all know how much we miss our furry friends when they are left at home and how happy we are when we get to engage with another sweet spirit.
This trip has inspired me to continue to check out places and activities where both you and Fido are welcome as there is still much to explore right here in my own backyard.

Wasn’t so keen on this steep sided valley…too enclosed for me.The village looked ok, a bit more traditional but very busy with the road going right through it.
Glad we were staying just outside Grindelwald with its more open situation and close up views of Wetterhorn and The Eiger. More impressive overall.

Wonderful village and stunning staubbach falls. Grab some tasty salmon at hotel jungfrau too. Really enjoy the food and views. We had bad experience with one of the souvenir shops nearest to the waterfall where she scolded when my kid touches the souvenir. Of course he touched it bcs he loved and wanted to buy it. Really really bad experience. End up we just left as she did not welcome us and our kid there. We went to buy plenty souvenirs from other shop. Find shop that sells clothes/sweaters, they had many beautiful souvenir too.

I would recommend staying in this Village if you are planning to visit the Schilthorn, see Trummelbachfalle, going up to Jungfraujoch, and visiting the Ballenberg Swiss Open Air Museum. <>.
The reason I selected Lauterbrunnen is it provides a relatively central location to access all these sites I mentioned above:
- Regional Train Access to Lauterbrunnen runs into the night. Note, going to Stechelberg is only via Bus.
- Starting point for the Wengernalpbahn that goes up to Kleine Scheidegg; the train stop to switch before going up to Jungfraujoch. <>
- It gives access to Interlaken Ost (if you want to explore Interlaken) and hence to Brienz (where you can travel to Ballenberg, see my other reviews).
- Starting point to go up Schilthorn (you can see my other reviews).
- Access to Lauterbrunnen Waterfalls and sights (you can take a walk or Bus 141 that travels to Stechelberg to see various waterfalls).
Take note, Coop isn't open on Sundays here. K Kiosk (7-eleven equivalent) is though.

PROS
* Legendary place- the stuff of dreams come true
* Iconic quintessential simple Swiss village
* Scenic beyond words
* Beautiful valley surrounded by soaring snow covered mountains
* Pristine and pastoral and peaceful
* Idyllic and serene
* A real Swiss working village
* Simple, small and authentic
* Quiet and not commercial
* Starting point for incredible amount of world-class day (and longer) hikes and bicycle excursions
* Starting point for paragliding and base jumping
* Access point to no-car mountain villages of Wengen and Murren
* Not touristy
CONS
* It's been discovered and can get crowded
* Nothing to do in the evening (a good thing)
* Many backpackers (a good thing)
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because I've been obsessed and focused on this place since I first visited in 1982, and that's only getting worse. In my family, Lauterbrunnen has become a concept more than a place- the name represents travel and touring- anywhere.
Please see my previous extensive reviews here from 2018/2019 and also 2020.
This year, we arrived here at 1700H, after a day of hiking at Engstilegenfalle above Adelboden, and we proceeded along the Bahnhofstrasse and came to Staubbach Falls, and proceeded to climb behind the waterfalls (you can soon read my pending forthcoming review of that attraction). We tarried in the area and explored the cemetery. We slowly found our way back to the train station after 2000H.
I returned twice during that week- both times, I made the classic loop of Lauterbrunnen- Grutscalp- Murren- Gimmelwald- Stechelberg- Lauterbrunnen.
I was surprised at the crowds on the street!!
TIPS
* If you are in the Berner Oberland, and especially the Jungfrau region, visiting Lauterbrunnen is not an option- it's a necessity- "just do it."

Hi, I am planning to visit Switzerland in mid to late June this year. I am a solo traveller & it will be my first time to travel solo which I am nervously excited about. I am planning to visit interlaken for a day and lauterbrunnen for 2-3 days. What is the weather normally like that time of the year as I hope for sunshine days etc? Also if you have any tips for a solo traveller to these places it would be much appreciated 😊 thanks

Sorry for delayed response. IC train from Venice to Milan. Then Milan to Brig, Switzerland. From Brig to Spietz, Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen.
Is there a public parking in Lauterbrunnen? If so, do I need reservation? is it hourly? or option for full day? Fees? Any information about parking in Lauterbrunnen would be welcome and greatly appreciated. Thank you

I think is Interlaken OST or EAST. Hotel rate at Interlaken is cheaper than Lauterbrunnen, so if you rent a car and planning stay at Interlaken is good decision.

Bonjour
Merci.

When I went to Jungfrau I went from Interlaken. There are two train changes – one in Lauterbrunnen and one in Kleine Scheidegg. You'll have 10 minutes at each stop and it's more than enough time to change trains. Since I have bought the train global pass ( because I was visiting few countries along the way) I could not use my pass for the second part of the ride to the mountain, so I had to buy a ticket ahead of time for myself and my daughter with a reservation just to ensure our seats. The train from Grindelwald takes just over half an hour while the trains from Lauterbrunnen need around 45 minutes to reach Kleine Scheidegg. From Kleine Scheidegg, the Jungfraubahn trains go through the mountain to Jungfraujoch-Top of Europe station. Ask your hotel once you get to your place because they have local free passes in some of them. I don't know to much about the local Swiss passes since like I mentioned before I have the global pass, and for my local run around I use the little pass the owner of the guess house gave us.Savings Passes for the Train to Jungfraujoch-Top of Europe. But I found this information for you. Most Swiss railways savings passes are valid for travel on the trains of the Jungfraubahnen. ... Bearers of a Generalabonnement SBB or a Swiss Travel Pass may travel for free as high as Wengen, Mürren and Grindelwald but pay half price for further trains.

Where to stay in Lauterbrunnen? We have 4 days in the area in June - will have a car. Ideas for routes? Am looking to experience the smaller, quaint towns.
Hi,
I want to spend 3-4 days in the Swiss Alps - I'm a little overwhelmed after reading and watching YouTube videos about places to stay. I'll be traveling from Munich, Germany and would like to know what will be the best route and where to stay. I would love to hike, take a scenic train ride, go to Jungfraubahnen, see the glacier... I love the outdoors, especially the mountains.
Please advise, much appreciated.

If you take the train from Munich you’ll stop at “interlaken” from there yu take a short train ride to lauterbrunnen from lauterbrunnen which is very small there are trails to hike see the waterfall and right there yu can take a small train up the mountain stop at a little city called “ murren “ which is very beautiful ..from that city you can take cable car up to top of mountains with 6-7 amazing hiking trails ..or continue up to jungfrau at night come back down and sleep somewhere in lauterbrunnen it seems like a lot but once yur there you’ll see how small the area is..

Hello----
Question about Lauterbrunnen Village. We will be doing day trips from Zurich..... how long do you suggest we plan to spend in Lauterbrunnen. While the full effect will be ideal, I'm leaning more towards 1/2 a day- going with my mom so small hiking ok but we won't venture too far on trails and such. thoughts? Thanks! Was thinking of trying to do Berne and Lauterbrunnen in same day.....

Take at least a day. Stroll from train station to town, past church, to view waterfall behind.
Then take the cableway to James Bond film site on Schilthorn- Piaz mountain.
There is Trumbel subterrian waterfall on plain.
Over to other high mountain via train to Jungfau - top of snow capped mountain and glacier.
Enjoy!

We are having trouble figuring out the cost of riding cable cars, trains and such. We understand some are privately owned companies and some are public transportation but it is so confusing to try to figure out what type of ticket we should buy--individual tickets for each leg of the journey/attraction or an 8 day pass that comes with various discounts. Why are some ticket prices posted as 50% discount? Is that just for Switzerland citizens? Can you please help?

I don't know all the prices, but we got a 5 day Juanfran travel pass which cost about 175 francs each a few weeks ago (using a half price travel card which we got as part of our holiday package in advance) and it covered every train / cable car etc. from interlaken ost. onwards & up into the mountains and the ferries on the lakes you do over 4 or 5 day pass i think.
it saved a lot of money if you are traveling around the region every day (we stayed in Wengen) so right in the middle of the area covered
EXCEPT (Below not Included)
Schilthorne where James bond was filmed (From Stechelberg via Murren) which is 3x ? cable cars
BUT the old train from Murren to Grutshalp then the cable car down to lauterbrunnen is covered so you can get the Murren this way with the pass all included if not going right up to the top
Juanfraujoch where the highest train goes & include ice palace (Up to Kleine Scheidegg IS included, but from there upwards is extra)
The Juanfrau pass just gets you a discount and half price card does similar thing. which brings down prices to about 60 ish francs each for each trip, so still a lot of money.
Juanfrau is more crowded but more worth the money as the the view of the glacier and mountains is incredible.
Check the Live Webcams for these 2 mountain tops to check there are clear before you go as not much to see is thick cloud,
so don't but tickets in advance, just go & buy them on the day at the bottom
For 8 days here definitely get the swiss 1/2 price rail card before you go & the buy the Juanfrau travel pass at any local station when you get there, it also saves a lot of time buying separate ticks every journey
good luck, you will love it
hope this helps from my limited knowledge
