Lauterbrunnen is one of the beautiful villages in Switzerland with its waterfall.
One of our bucket list dreams. Many photos of Lauterbrunnen are scattered on the internet and social media so it is one of our bucket lists to visit. We headed to Lauterbrunnen by train from Interlaken Ost. Luckily the weather was sunny that day because our previous days in Switzerland had always been cloudy. Beautiful village in Switzerland

    Beautiful village
I stayed in Interlaken,so it was quite near going to Lauterbrunnen. From Interlaken West,i went by train to Lauterbrunnen. From Lauterbrunnen station,I wanted to see Murren,so I went to Grutschalp, and by cable car to Murren. If you go to Lauterbrunnen, don't skip Murren..it was beautiful village too. I walked through the Murren village and then by cable car to Gimmelwald and Stechelberg, and by bus to Lauterbrunnen. I stopped one stop before the train station, and walked to the Staubbach waterfall...and walked till the train station..Really beautiful village
Thank you for your visit and the excellent review!

The ravine like valley that was so much attractive
The town with a series of water falls decorating it, was one of the most attractive towns we had the opportunity to visit. Lauterbrunnen valley that we saw was a relatively narrow strip of land bordered by two major cliffs, one of which was rich with the natural water features. Just outside the bustling village centre with cafes and tourist activity the road led us to very green pasture fields and open space with Swiss Alps with snowcapped peaks just ahead of it. Travel to Lauterbrunnen was easy taking the train from Interlaken hopping into the segment that traveled to Lauterbrunnen. It was a pretty relaxing area with extremely fresh air and peaceful atmosphere where we enjoyed every moment of our visit.
Thank you for the excellent review and your visit in Lauterbrunnen.

    Waterfalls galore!
Lauterbrunnen is a quaint village in the valley with soaring cliffs of the Alps on all sides. We took a train from Luzern to Lauterbraunnen. The train trip was very scenic with views of beautiful lakes, mountains and waterfalls. If you have an extra day, a trip to this village is worth your time. There are a handful of good restaurants and some shops. It is also a great place to hike.
Thank you for your excellent review and the visit in Lauterbrunnen.

    Beautiful location
What a gorgeous little village. My partner and I stayed a few nights and we also did day trips to other parts close by. I do recommend but just make sure you are respectful of the residents- it is their home! Research what the countries rules are for parking/driving/transport etc and please be kind to other tourists!
Thank you for your visit and the excellent review!

    Still Incredible
It’s still as incredible as ever but also very different. I don’t want to compare my first visit from 2002 to this year or other previous visits but it’s unavoidable. Trains were very crowded, standing room only on most and some connections were more like a cattle stampede with lots of people running with very large suitcases and not everyone can get on. So know your limits and plan accordingly. To be in Lauterbrunnen on a sunny day is to be blessed with stunning scenery - a rare chance to experience something most people never will. But even in October it was very crowded in the village. Yes, easy to hike up or walk out in the valley but I can’t imagine this being my home and dealing with all that this brings on this small community. Lines for everything, getting lunch or dinner is more of a challenge, walking through the village is not the same with big groups and many other tourists. Please be respectful of these treasured places - lower your voices, don’t go on private property or disrespect people’s privacy for any reason. And take care with your steps, your trash and your impact so that Lauterbrunnen and all the treasured places will be around forever.

    Busy village in beautiful surroundings
Lauterbrunnen is located in the Lauterbrunnen Valley; the valley of the 72 waterfalls. The village itself is actually a very busy street with shops and eateries but in a beautiful area. All traffic comes through this street to various parking spaces Many people who go up with cogwheel railways and / or cable cars from this village also walk through this street. So a bustle of jewelest. But as soon as you are outside the village center and you go further into the valley or up it is great. I wouldn’t want to spend the night here with all the crowds but the village is a start for beautiful trips.

    Heaven
The most beautiful place I have been to, no tourist shops. Tractors with their trailers going down the street, cows with bells around their necks. So many water pouring down into this picturesque village. A must is to visit the Staubbachfall, this will blow your mind. Enjoy

18 years ago we had visited Lauterbrunnen, and this area of the Swiss Alps, in the Fall. We felt it was one of the most beautiful places on earth. We were so excited to now be able visit in the Wintertime. We started our day visiting the traditional Alpine Lauterbrunnen Village. With the snow-covered mountains as a beautiful backdrop, we enjoyed a leisurely walk through the town and sweet treats at Flavours Restaurant. We then hiked the Lauterbrunnen Valley & rode the gondola to Murren, where we viewed the city of Lauterbrunnen from high above. Still one of the most beautiful places on earth!

We visited during April'22 which was mid of the Spring. The advantages were,
1. Day light was quite long and we had lot of time to explore around.
2. The crowd was reasonable which I believe it's comparatively lower than other seasons.
3. Swiss Alps were covered with snow and gave us lots of picture-perfect photos!

We booked a hotel in the middle of the town on Bed 7 Breakfast basis. It was 5 mins walking to Lauterbrunnen Station and lots of other restaurants. We had a quite a good breakfast at hotel so that we just needed a small supper for lunch. That saved money and time.

We visited Murren on first day. There was a Cable Car service available to the mountain top and from there a mountain train took us to Murren. Murren was a beautiful village which is very close to Swiss Alps. It's good if u love skiing and they has a ski school for all age persons.

From Murren we walked upto Gimmelward which was around 3kms. Surrounding was so beautiful and mesmerizing with uncountable number of waterfalls! From Gimmelward we took the cable car down to Schilthornbahn and from there we took a bus back to hotel.

Day 2 was fully spent on Jungfraujoch, the Top of Europe. We took the Train and mountain trains to reach the top. Jungfraujoch was a surrounded with white mountains and you can study Swiss Alpes, take photos, shop for souvenir and more. Then we took the return trains back to Wengen and walked down to Wengwald station. (~1.5Km)

Had a nice dinner from the town and we left to Lucerne on next day.
Make your hotel reservations as early as possible and if are a nature lover, walk as much as u can. This will save your time and money spent on food.

Lauterbrunen was the major highlight of our swiss trip. It is a valley with 72 waterfalls and amazing views of the alphs mountain region. The Staubach waterfall is the major attraction here, but there are plenty of other small waterfalls around here. You can go inside the Staubach waterfall and see water flowing infront of you. Better to visit in morning time when the waterfalls has the most of water. As the day progresses we saw some small waterfalls getting dried out and the water amount of Staubach waterfall also got reduced significantly. We recommend you to visit the water stream just down the main path. It has an amazing blue colour which is due to the water stream is fed by the glacier itself.
Expect to spend a day here to explore everything leisurely.

Discrimination at Spellbound Chalet in Lauterbrunnen. My wife and I booked to go June 22. In some of the small print that I did not see it specified aged 18-35 guests only. In another area it said 18-45. And elsewhere, nothing at all. I only spotten this once the payment had been made 2 weeks prior to visiting. No refund given as we were 47!! Sooo Old. I tried to argue that if there was no health reason for this policy, then this is discrimination. All I eventuially got was £200 back from Booking.com out of the £700 paid for 4 nights. Legally, trying to argue a case with a firm that is Dutch, a property in Switzerland and as British resident is impossible. Avoid this property unless you like wierd discrimination policies.

Be careful to read the terms & conditions of accommodation you book. My wife and I booked via booking.com to stay at chalet Spellbound in Lauterbrunner. Tucked away at the end of the T&C was a clause that all guests must be ages 18-35 (or 18-45 in another section). I had paid by this point and not eligible for refund so lost over £700 on 4 nights accommodation. No explanation was given to this clause. We were both 47 at the time and fit and able. Age discrimination.

Be careful when parking near the cemetery, you may be tempted to walk out of your car and start taking pics of the beautiful waterfall like I did. However, I was accosted by a rude lady saying that I was disrespecting their people by having my camera out. I was not taking pictures with any grave stones. But to be honest I wouldn’t have thought much about doing so, because there were no visible signs near the parking lot that forbid photography. I offered to show her the pics to prove what I had taken a pic of; the waterfall and some flowers, but she was more interested in targeting and shaming me. She obviously didn’t like tourists coming to to village which is her prerogative of course, but something to consider when visiting, I don’t tourists are welcome.

this valley is just the most beautiful place with the waterfalls and you can walk along the valley floor and just be in the moment with the cows and their bells the beautiful mountains and the river that runs thru the valley. We walked to the cafe at the caravan park and the food was fabulous, we also walked up behind the waterfall and looked out thru the falls which was just magic. We took the trail alongside the river and over the bridge, looked at the little cemetery and watched the workers delivered by helicoptor to the mountainside where they chopped down trees. All in all it was a spectacular few days and I would return in a heartbeat.

Sure, this is the gorgeous Bernese Oberland, but the town is set deep in a valley and the most impressive peaks are not so easy to see. Better to stay higher up, where the vistas are jaw dropping, say Murren or Gimmelwald. Nevertheless, the town is well situated for all kinds of experiences, and has plenty of restaurants and transportation. There are some nice spontaneous walks to be had if you head up towards Wengen. Facing south at sunset, you see the peaks turn a delightful pink.

Thank you for your visit and the review. Here in the Valley you have nice views to the Waterfalls and to some mountains. To see Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau you have nice views from higher up, this is correct. We are looking forward to your next visit. Best regards and a nice day

The village was extremely busy, especially with the viewpoint of the waterfalls and the church. There was a long lineup to take photos in there. But, hearing the cow bells while soaking in the views got me chills! What was just seen in Instagram was something I saw with my two very own eyes, and pictures didn't do justice! It's totally worth seeing it in person!

One thing to watch out though, since it's in the valley, the illumination of the falls will depend on the sun's angle, which can make or break the view. I tried during sunrise, and it looked like the falls were dry.

This is a lovely town. It is very convenient, with lots of hotels, restaurants and shops, but not overwhelmed with tourists. The transportation is wonderful, with all the connecttions, whether by train, cable car or bus, coordinated so there is minimal wait times. The town is quaint enough, with great scenery all around. We did not get a chance to hike nearby, but would have if it weren't winter.
