Discovering history

The Fortress of Komárno was one of the biggest fortresses in Austrian - Hungarian Empire, originally built against Turks in 16th Century, being in active use by early nineties, when the last Red Army occupational forces have left it. Without seeing it you would hardly imagine how big it is and what everything it has been used for. Very good guide providing personal attitude and more specific information you would expect.

An unlucky visit.
Oct 2019
This was my first visit to Komarno and Slovakia. Just a short one day trip, coming by train from Budapest and walking through on the Alzbetin Most from Komárom to Komarno. My first aim was Pevnost Komarno. Lingering around the walls, examining the old bricks, and had a look at the NEC Arte Nec Marte at the beginning, I continued to the gate, and with a group of soldiers I marched in through of it; Walking around and taking photos I was looking for a ticket office since I knew, that to visit this place isn't free of charge. Suddenly a man came and questioned me, how did I get in? Of course, through the gate- I answered. - But the fortress is closed today - he said. There was a signpost on the road that I haven't seen since I went through the field, and not on the foot pass. This is my tough luck I thought that the only day when I'm here, the fortress is closed. Anyway, at least I have seen a part of it, and I think it was enough for me.
