    Fantastic day out
We caught the bus from Tavira no. 105, really good bus air conditioned, dropped us a short walk from the small train which takes you to the beach. There are three of four restaurants, we ate in the tuna museum. The food was fantastic I had roasted octopus with vegetables so tender, my partner had seared tuna and gazpacho. The waiters were very friendly. There are also a few small shops, changing and showering facilities. Loads of sunbeds, we asked for one front line which we got. The sea was amazing so warm and more sheltered. We caught the train back and waited about 20mins for the bus back to Tavira. Such a great day out we will return.

Wonderful beach to spend a relaxing day or short visit
We loved everything about this beach. The Natural Park consists of wetlands and there are numerous informative signs if you walk across. Be very early if you want to avoid parking a long way from the entrance road. The beach has beautiful fine sand and there are different umbrellas and lounges to choose from. The cafe, restaurant, and shops are all in attractive buildings repurposed from the tuna fishing days. Another attraction is the Cemetery of Anchors, 250 anchors left in rows on the adjacent sandhills in 1964 in the hope that the tuna fishing industry would restart. It's worth doing as we did, walking across in the early morning, looking around and enjoying morning tea before catching an empty train back. (They were full coming toward the beach.)

    Good Beach, better train
Took the little train across to the beach from the car park. Was worth every penny (in my mind) especially with little kids. a memory they will treasure. I especially enjoyed passing people that had chosen to walk, i hate walking and this brought a smile to my face.

    My favourite beach in Tavira
I love this beach, it's my favourite in the Tavira area. We usually choose to walk to the beach from the car park and then get the train back, which the kids enjoy. The beach is sandy with plenty of sun beds and food options. It can get busy but that's to be expected in the summer months.

    Beautiful day with family
Fantastic beach just like Ilha Tavira. Sand that stretches forever. Just enough waves to go in the water for everyone. A fair deal of seaweed in the water. Lots of lovely shells to look at and perfect for digging sand castles and decorating them. The service area is great with many restaurants and clean toilets. The only thing I miss is a shower to wash sandy children with. We took the train out, if I didn’t have three kids with me I definitely would have walked, it’s not very far.

    Beautiful on a sunny day
Beautiful pristine huge beach where you can walk for miles when the tide is out. The train gives you a slow ride instead of having to walk @ €2 each way. Cafe serves quite a big menu also there is a restaurant .

    Idyllic naturist beach. Easy access.
Visited this beach last year, and enjoyed it. This time we stayed in Pedras del rei resort. Also enjoyed Santa Luzia. You can use the train or walk down to beach at the side of train track. Get to end and turn right on beach. You find Nudist about 1000 Mtr up beach. There is a small sign. But it’s really small. Enjoy. We’ll be back.

    Anchor Cemetery worth a visit
Great place for an afternoon outing. Take the train ride to the beach. Cafes nearby but the highlights include the expansive each and the Anchor Cemetery - a collection of rusting anchors from the now defucnt tuna fleet.

We use a lot of beaches on our trips, sadly this year our visit here will be the last for a number of reasons. Firstly parking where free is risky, in a hire car once damage when on road parked took place, common we were informed and local hawkers who find you one aggressively seek five euros for the privilege. The pay for car park is better but only one pay machine working on return meant a delay to get away. The train is fun for kids but overcrowded and covid measures weak and ignored. Trains are showing age now, the walk saves you money but not time. Then the loungers are lower quality than other beaches and we had to move as ours had faulty kit. We never eat or drink there as the bars are crowded, pricey and not quick. We walked out before orders came for years and now always picnic. Small play area attracted unsupervised children who did so with little regard for others. Easy to get to if you have a car, we always drive to Portugal, but many more beaches better than this.

What fun that little train! Excellent beach and plenty restaurants. Walking path to the beach also available. It takes a 15-20 minutes walk starting at the little trainstation to the beach.

Stunning beach reached by a little train from the mainland. Plenty of cafes/restaurants, shady corners, and good loos. Don’t miss the display of anchors sunk into the beach! Only downside is that a beer and a coffee was nearly twice the price we pay in Cabanas, where we’re staying. For that reason we didn’t eat here. But the place itself is a delight.

Visited today from Tavira
Stunning beach , much busier than Tavira island but equally amazing. 5min little train ride from main land . Selection of cafes, restaurants in the much needed shade . Crystal clear waters.
Monument to Tuna fisheries depicted with 100's of huge anchors , very striking and picturesque. A lovely place to visit .

Staying in the Motorhome park in Tavira there are two ways to get to the beaches on the island you can walk into town and get the ferry to Tavira beach or you can cycle 20 minutes to Pedra de Al Rei and walk over the bridge. You then have a 2 km walk or pay for the little train at 3.50 euro return. You cannot cycle to the beach and so need to lock the bikes before the bridge.

The beach is very long and fine sand. There are only a few restaurants so take plenty of water. Very relaxed.

Couple visiting from Ireland. Overall nice beach, but nothing special. Overpriced, especially compared to Tavira beach. We payed 12.5 euro for the car park, 7 euro for the train, 19 euro for 2 sunbeds. By comparison, for Tavira Island, the ferry is 1.7 euro per person return. 2 sunbeds are 12.5 euros. More restaurants and more toilet facilities on Tavira beach.

You can reach Barril Beach by an antiquated train, or walk the approximately one kilometre distance to the shore. Once there, at least two restaurants are available for meals or just a drink. And the beach is just beyond the dune --- pristine, lovely, serene.

Decided to have a bite to eat after enjoying the walk to the beach and back. Shouldn't have bothered. Meal of seafood (fried prawns and salad) nothing special. Exorbitantly expensive for so little. I would not recommend this place.
