A perfect day - fun little train ride to the beach. We were staying in Tavira without a car so got an Uber for 7e to the train stop which is actually a fair way out of the town of Santa Luzia. A beautiful beach, very good facilities- loungers and parasols (18e a pair) so not cheap. Good choice of beach bars/ restaurants and very clean toilets

Staying in the Motorhome park in Tavira there are two ways to get to the beaches on the island you can walk into town and get the ferry to Tavira beach or you can cycle 20 minutes to Pedra de Al Rei and walk over the bridge. You then have a 2 km walk or pay for the little train at 3.50 euro return. You cannot cycle to the beach and so need to lock the bikes before the bridge.

The beach is very long and fine sand. There are only a few restaurants so take plenty of water. Very relaxed.

Great beach to visit. The only beach in Tavira region where you don't need to go by boat. There's a small pedestrian bridge following by a small touristic train that takes you to the beach. You can also decide to walk along the track if you prefer, anyway it's a very nice ride. The train goes every 10 minutes but it can be crowded in late afternoon when veryone is getting back from the beach.
Just before the beach there's an area with several restaurants all services and a museum.

We use a lot of beaches on our trips, sadly this year our visit here will be the last for a number of reasons. Firstly parking where free is risky, in a hire car once damage when on road parked took place, common we were informed and local hawkers who find you one aggressively seek five euros for the privilege. The pay for car park is better but only one pay machine working on return meant a delay to get away. The train is fun for kids but overcrowded and covid measures weak and ignored. Trains are showing age now, the walk saves you money but not time. Then the loungers are lower quality than other beaches and we had to move as ours had faulty kit. We never eat or drink there as the bars are crowded, pricey and not quick. We walked out before orders came for years and now always picnic. Small play area attracted unsupervised children who did so with little regard for others. Easy to get to if you have a car, we always drive to Portugal, but many more beaches better than this.

It is located in the buildings where they processed the tuna fished in the sea opposite the beach. Today they don't fish any longer, and changed the use of the buildings.

There are two bars, one fast food, one restaurant.
Food quality is good, the service is fine, spotless clean, prices a little expensive but of course you pay for the location, with the beautiful beach and ocean in front of you.

No service after 19:30, when everything is closed and nobody stays there.

What fun that little train! Excellent beach and plenty restaurants. Walking path to the beach also available. It takes a 15-20 minutes walk starting at the little trainstation to the beach.

Visited today from Tavira
Stunning beach , much busier than Tavira island but equally amazing. 5min little train ride from main land . Selection of cafes, restaurants in the much needed shade . Crystal clear waters.
Monument to Tuna fisheries depicted with 100's of huge anchors , very striking and picturesque. A lovely place to visit .

Stunning beach reached by a little train from the mainland. Plenty of cafes/restaurants, shady corners, and good loos. Don’t miss the display of anchors sunk into the beach! Only downside is that a beer and a coffee was nearly twice the price we pay in Cabanas, where we’re staying. For that reason we didn’t eat here. But the place itself is a delight.

Awful…we visited a few years ago and have fond memories so decided to go again. This time the restaurants have decided it’s a bad idea to serve fish by the sea and instead have followed many other restaurants in portugal by focussing on selling Nothing other than burgers and pizzas.

Once the distinctly average meal was done, we then had a run in with an ignorant local man as we were apparently and unknowingly on his sunbed. Instead of politely letting us know he decided to come over and begin shouting at my wife in front of my children, which I did not take too kindly to. There were no signs or indication that this was the case, a complete guessing game.

After finding out you aren’t able to book sun beds and a sunshade for the day (as per every other beach in portugal) we then had to lie on the sand without shade which we could stand for all of 20 mins, as well as having a dip in the sea (again distinctly average - I can’t recall my son ever telling me he’s bored at a beach!) we decided to head home feeling very disappointed with the worst day of our holiday by a long way.

I’d avoid this place like the plague.

You can reach Barril Beach by an antiquated train, or walk the approximately one kilometre distance to the shore. Once there, at least two restaurants are available for meals or just a drink. And the beach is just beyond the dune --- pristine, lovely, serene.
