On the skyline of the pretty Moorish town of Tavira stands a strange construction. A cylindrical form on spindly legs with what appears to be a single eye that slowly turns to observe the town, it's presence like that of an alien spaceship from War of the Worlds. The cylinder however contains a delightful camera obscura, and in the cool darkened space it's revolving lens projects telescopic images of the town below onto a large concave screen. The commentator tells you that from ground level you cannot be seen as you observe the comings and goings of the street below. What fun then, when walking through the town, you become aware of the eye turning to face you and you face it, smile and wave at the surprised tourists inside.

The first time we went to Tavira it was cloudy so the Camera Obscura wasn't working, but if it's a sunny day (it usually is) it is definitely worth a visit. You get to see the whole town from a bird's eye perspective and the commentary is really good too.

Never to good at doing things like this but I think its well worth the 3-50 Euros, as you see Tavira in a different way and get a little bit of education in to the trip. Been coming to Tavira for years and never knew what some of the building were or are boing used for, now I do and... More

We found this tourist attraction very informative and great fun (I won't tell you why as I wouldn't want to spoil it!) The staff are very friendly. Just make sure you go on a clear day, as we visited on a cloudy November day and had to return later in the day. (Not a problem in such a wonderful town)... More

Location , on top of a redundant water tower is fabulous with good views all round. The event was well presented and interesting , if a little short .

Happened upon this whilst walking around Tavira €3.50 each and was ok. Shows Tabira but nothing more than walking around Much better value than Edinburgh obscura which I would not pay for.

This is in a renovated water tower at the top of Tavira by the castle. The guide who is also the operator of the device us very knowledgeable and informative. He makes the experience interesting for adults, fascinating for children and fun for 'tinies'.

We were lucky in visiting this viewpoint out of season. Consequently, we could use all the time we wanted, and ask all the questions we wanted. The person on duty was very communicative and helpful.

Really enjoyed this view of the town. Lovely way to make use of an old water tower. Entertaining and informative. Great to visit along with the castle as in same area. Lift to get up the tower. Think it closes for lunch.
