My name is João, I have been working in the tourism business for over 4 years and I will accompany you on this 100% ecological adventure through the city of Tavira and its surroundings. Exploring Tavira

Paulo was a well-informed, patient and helpful guide who knows everyone in Tavira and brought the ancient history of Tavira alive for us in his very quiet electric tuk tuk. The tour gave us an excellent overview of the city's history and development; we went places we never would have found on our own and Paulo very graciously spoke both in Portuguese and English for my Brazilian friend and me. A lovely way to spend a few hours in a charming city.

Wow an amazing tour

Wow what an amazing trip, something very different and authentic. We took the longest tour around 3 hours. Visited the salt pans, fishing villages and a pottery where we were taken behind the scenes. We would 100% recommend Maria's Tuk Tuk tours as we feel we saw and heard about the real Portugal.

Great tour Gem!!

We had a great tour with Joao. Very well informed he gave us lots of information inside out many histories behind beautiful Tavira, salt production, octopus fishing and the old fishing village. His knowledge of salt fields pink salt and variety of birds were awesome. He also took many beautiful pictures for us to take home and let us sample pink salt and a good surprise at the end. He even recommend a good local restaurant where we had great meal. Thanks João!! will recommend you to our friend and family.

Beautiful day learning about Tavira! We learned so much and had an amazing guide!

Joao was an excellent guide and so informed about Tavira! He took us to places unique, and also showed us the amazing historical sites. He explained the history and made sure we were able to go inside and experience the beauty of the churches for ourselves. The salt flats were very interesting and he was willing to stop and allow us to get some gifts. He even made special arrangements for us to eat at an amazing Portuguese restaurant! You can’t go wrong with this tour! He’s the owner and operator of the Tuk Tuk, and he obviously loves what he does and loves his city! It shows! It was a wonderful day!!!

Best Tour I have Been On

This tour was better than expected. I learned so much about Tavira. Our guide took extra care to answer all our questions and show us things we were interested in. It felt very personalized. I would highly recommend this tour over big tours in the area.

Bird watching in the area of Tavira

João gave us an individual tour: salt fields in Cabanas, Santa Lucia, Tavira. We asked him for a trip to nature and he showed us his favorite places. He was very attentive, explained all good, picked us some almonds & granates & figs (we robbed). We are very thankful for the plenty of birds he showed us and will keep this great experience in our hearts. We recommend João to everyone!

Fantastic locally guided tour

We went on the City & Tapas Tour and we were blown away by how much fun we had! The tour took us to places in Tavira we would never have walked by, the in depth history we were told about just added to the whole experience and any questions we had were answered.
The salt pans were beautiful with all the flamingoes and other birds relaxing in the water. Our tour guide was a lot of fun and really made the whole experience feel relaxed and fun, rather than very rehearsed and formal like a lot of yours may be.
Finally, the tapas at the end was the cherry on top of a fantastic time. We got so much food included in our tour price! It was all delicious. If we are in Tavira again we will no doubt be back in the tuk tuk on a tour.

Our family hired Maria’s tuck tuk and the owner drove us around for about an hour and 20 minutes and it was amazing. He was very knowledgable, polite and very personable. Because the tuk tuk is small we were able to go where other tours such as the Travira train couldn’t go. We felt we received good value for money. He also recommended a great place for lunch which was very reasonable. Highly recommended this company.

Great mini tour

We visited Tavira recently by train whilst staying nearby in Faro, and were lucky enough to find that Maria's Tuk Tuk was free to do a tour. We took the 1 hour tour which took us around the town, to the salt plains (and flamingos!) and to see where you could take a ferry across the water to a nearby beach. We were told some history,, shown many interesting buildings and had a chance to take some photos at a couple of locations. The young guide was lovely. Happy to recommend this tour if you visit, but you may wish to try and pre-book. A nice touch was you were given a couple of books to keep with all the highlights you'd been shown on the tour.

Excellent bird-watching tour of the Tavira salt pans

Joao took us for a brilliant tour of the Tavira salt pans, scheduled for two hours, but which over-ran by about 20 minutes, to see all of the many varieties of birds in the pans at much closer quaarters than if we had gone on foot by ourselves. Joao is very knowledgeabl and helpful with what you can expect to see (although he doesn't claim to be an expert). He was very prompt when picking us up outside our apartment, and returned us there after the tour. Very good value for money.
