We attended the Sunday evening Mass here. It was such a contrast to the crowded flea market taking place just down the road! The church itself is beautiful and not quite so OTT as some of the others we’ve visited. Well worth a visit either as part of the congregation (doesn’t really matter whether you understand Portuguese or not, you’ll be familiar with the order of the service and the cadence of parts of the liturgy) or when there is no service, as a tourist.

If you visit portugal dońt forget that you have 3 different zones in Portugal
South with Algarve area for tourists and see,
Center with Lisbon area for museums, and business
And at last the real Portugal with real portuguese life in the north of portugal.
And the small town of Ponte de Lima at less than nortern border with spain. This town is the most typic in Portugal and was the first city founded on the new portugal after separation with spain.
Doń ´ t book an hotel but book a room or a full house directly to the habitants, we have a very large choice.

The main church of this small town is a good example of the Portuguese Christianization after having taken back those regions from the moors (end of the 11th beginning of the 12th century). These Christian churches are solid temples which sometimes could also be used as fortresses and were mainly built in Romanesque style. It doesn’t deserve a detour but it’s worth a visit if you are walking in this town’s center. Enjoy

A very nice little church at the other end of the bridge, after the church you will find some gardens and a few meters further the toy museum.

Ponte de Lima, at Northern Portugal, is the country's oldest town. While visiting it, one will certainly pass in front of this old and beautiful church, also referred to as "Church of Our Lady of the Angels" or "Church of St. Mary of the Angels". Its construction dates back to the XII and XIII centuries. In 1425, D. João I, King of Portugal, took the responsibility of enlarging the ancient church, considered too small for the town's population at that time. After many renovations, romanic, gothic and neo-classical characteristics can still be seen at the actual building. Magnificent carving works adorn its interior. A visit is a must and its environment invites visitors to moments of prayer, self-communion, meditation and internal reflection. Enjoy!

It is a must do at Ponte de Lima. You can get in contact with local/traditional culture and you’ll see a very well kept place.

Impressive architecture because it's heavy and humble yet impressive. I loved the ceilings and all of the wood work and the romanic architecture.

When visiting Ponte de Lima and walking through do spend a few minutes in this church. It is relatively simple church but that is what we like. We loved the altar wood carvings. Worth a visit when in Ponte de Lima, which has a number of other interesting sites to visit. Go to the tourist office where you can get a good map (in English) with all the sites worth seeing.

The Igreja Matriz de Ponte de Lima (Parish Church) was raised in the 15th century and remodeled in the 18th, preserving its beautiful Romanesque pointed arch.

Inside, beneath a wooden coffered ceiling, are shown numerous statues from different ages, and the Capela de Nossa Senhora da Conceição Chapel, a Manueline style temple where two Baroque reredos are exhibited. The right apse is preceded by a Renaissance arch from 1589.

Just another European church, nothing that great.
The stained glasses are beautiful, the best part of it.
