If you are walking the Camino Português, the oldest town in Portugal (founded in 1125) makes for a perfect stop. The small town, delightfully picturesque, is located on the banks of the Lima River. We admired the historical buildings and got our Credencial del Peregrino book stamped, then headed across the medieval bridge for a picnic lunch in Parque do Arnado. Many tourists visit Ponte de Lima as a day trip. But to really enjoy the charm of this area, spend a night in one of the rural manors located just outside of town.

Ponte de Lima itself (the bridge) is stunning, and there is so much history in the area. I rated this a 4 because I happened to show up not just on a Sunday afternoon, but on market day. There is a market in town every few weeks, and the crowds were overwhelming. The market may be a positive for some; because of the crowds, I really didn't have a chance to enjoy it.

Quaint little village, with great photo opportunities and good food. If you re planning on visiting over the weekend, book a restaurant in advance because the place fills up fast. Very busy when we were there. A lovely village by the river, a short drive from Braga.

Ponte de Lima is a small picturesque town, the oldest in Portugal. It is an hour and fourty minutes taxi ride from the airport.
The town is situated on the banks of the River LIma and has an old Roman Bridge spanning it. The town is full of old historical buildings including numerous museums. It has quaint little alleyways, churches, squares and many individual shops. Half an hour drive away are the wetlands of the Lagoas de Bertiandos. You have access to the network of paths the Ecovia along the Lima river.

What a charming, delightful, picturesque town located along a gorgeous river - The Lima River.
Take time to get off the boring Toll Roads and drop into Ponte de Lima. You willed be rewarded. How?
One of the oldest vila in Portugal....enjoy it's long and eventful history.
One of the prettiest towns in Portugal....walk thru the inviting, narrow lanes and find some of the best vino verde and northern food to match.
One of the best open air markets.......buy your sweetheart a gift, walk across the bridge and make a wish.....who knows? Maybe you'll get lucky...and she'll buy dinner?
My wife and I both agreed this is too sweet to miss......
While in the lovely town square along the river....we were thrilled to watch the local women dressed in traditional costume dance and cavort to their ( and our ) heart's delight.....and all for free.
We only wished we could have stayed longer - especially in one of the baroque manors that offers accommodation.....
Bonus ....we weren't surrounded by other tourists....had the town to ourselves...

For a tourist town, this was a great place! I don't think I would want to come here in the summer, because there would simply be too many tourists- but the end of September was perfect.

Nice and quiet place to stay. People are very friendly. There are many places to see around here, you can swim in the river or go for a long walk by.

Wonderful old town with lots of small shops and very charming eatery. The Ponte Lima bridge is named after the long medieval bridge that passes over the river that runs next to the town. It’s is also the oldest vila in Portugal.
I recommend this place for couples or families alike. If you just want a nice stroll around town and see some Medieval history, this is the place to discover.
