I went there from Zakopane in December of the year 1975. At the time we just hired a taxi that brought us at a spot that wasn't so very far from the lake. It took us about three quarters of an hour to get there on foot on a path dug in the snow with high walls of snow on either side. if I remember well. I don't think it's possible today to reach the lake, the way we did at the time. I read that you have to walk at least 2 hours or go by a horse driven sleigh. We walked around and on the frozen lake as far as we could and had tea in the beautiful old house that is lying high on the shore. It was rather primitive in those days of course. Everybody wearing coats inside and sitting as near to the brown coal stove as they could in the big room. I remember there were hardly any tourists there only locals. At the entrance to the park you will see a lot of horses with carriages taking you directly to Morskie Oko - please DO NOT use it! For years people and media have been fighting to ban the Carriage Horse Transport to Morskie Oko Lake in the Tatra National Park in Poland! Horses are constantly dying on the way to the lake, as they are forced to work way below their capabilities. I really can't understand that people here are still recommending this activity - SHAME on you guys! there is so much information on internet, please save the horses and make our lives better. thanks all ;)))…

We went on a warm and sunny Saturday in September. There are buses every few minutes from Zakopane, with destination shown as 'Morske Oko'. In fact the buses go only as far as Lysa Polana, from which it is signposted as 2 hours 20 minutes to walk to the lake.... which is about what it took us...... All along an asphalt road.... The crowds of walkers were considerable.... One can only marvel at the number of Polish families with young children who walk this route..... Food and drink can be bought at the lake and also nearby. The lake is nice; albeit of no great size. For keen day walkers, my recommendation would be to try other parts of the Tatry National Park first. For those who are reasonably adventurous, Morske Oko is probably best visited when overnighting in the nearby PTTK alpine huts. …
