At the moment the Skagens Museum in under renovation, and all The beautiful Skagen paintings are housed in temporary rooms. The curation of the current exhibition is poor, all the paintings are crammed together, and the lighting is poor. Spend your money on a Skagen Paintings book in the bookshop instead.

Sorry to hear that, but we do realize that the exhibition this year doesnt appeal equally to everyone, when we open again in February next year that will be a completey different experience. I hope you'll pay visit to Michael & Anna Anchers Hus instead for a genuine and authentic Skagen painter experience More

The historic Skagen painters is a well known concept and their seminal works as well as the contemporary painters following up the tradition is absolutely well worth getting aquinted with. Too bad then that the curation of the beautiful works at Skagen museum is such a disappointment mainly due to crowded and cramped rooms for such magnificent works. So, dont... More

Hi Tor, 2015 is a very atypical year for us, while the old Plesner building is being renovated and extended. We usually make sure there's sufficient seating for everybody to sit down and relax during the visit, but this year we have - because of the limited space - had to keep it to just one bench for the visitors.... I was so inpressed with the museum in 2008 that we went again in 2015. The artist,s who lived around the Skagen area certainly captured the wonderful soft light in their paintings. The last time we were here was in May.It was quite in town. This time we were in Skagen during the summer holiday season, a bit crowded for... More

I went with friends who had raved about this museum in its old incarnation. My high expectations were disappointed but they were furious. Firstly, the new building is hideous on its own and particularly in the genteel setting of Skagen. Secondly, only a handful of paintings were on display, yet when we'd checked with the museum earlier this was never... More

Dear Rebecca. Sorry to hear about your experience, the alarms has been a bit of a problem child for the last few years - but with the last few adjustments this month, it should hopefully be tolerable for the guests for the rest of the season. As far as the building and renovation goes, yes - there will be a... More

At present the dining room is being renovated which means the paintings from the frieze are on display in the new wing. There were very few paintings on display (they are said to have 1500) but they were all wonderful. Beautifully displayed. I liked the modern artworks opposite the older ones - particularly look out for the contrasting then and... More

A wonderful collection of the very best of the Skagen artists from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It's a long way to go, but it's worth it. The new extension is now open, and they are working on the refurbishment of the original building. When all is completed (in 2016 they say) this will be an outstanding collection.... More

The exhibition at Skagens Musuem in 2015 will be 'Collection & Contemporary' from 1 May to 31 October. The exhibition will contain many of the best paintings from the museum's own collections, hung together with 14 Scandinavian contemporary artists. Besides works by famous Skagen painters like P. S. Krøyer, Anna Ancher, Michael Ancher, Laurits Tuxen, Frits Thaulow etc., the following... More

They just rebuilt the museum. My wife and I were very impressed with the paintings. One thing is to see them in books or on pictures. It is a totally different experience to see them "live"

Thw museum has just opened its new wing. The old part is under reconstruction. The paiintings showed are from the so called Skagen school which means that nature, sun and fishermen aand fisher families are some of the favorit topics, Highly recomendable. The present exhibition shows the contrast to modern paintings.
