About
Discover Sandomierz through our Museum and the regional archaeology, art, ethnography, history and literature, each presented within their own exhibition. Delve into the cellars and visit the turret to experience the views over the Vistula River, and feel the grandeur of the medieval castle. The treasures include a unique 12th century locally-made chess set and a copy of the crown likely worn by the Polish king Casimir the Great. Get to know the life of the writer Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, whose muse was often Sandomierz herself. Already a prince seat in the 12th century, the first stone castle was founded by the king Casimir the Great in the 14th century. Rebuilt in Renaissance style in XVI century. In 1656 during the Swedish wars blown up and partly destroyed. In XIX and XX century the castle served, amongst others, as a prison. This grim chapter closed in 1986, when the castle took the mantle of The Castle Museum. Mondays – closed. Free admission every Tuesday from 11.00 am to 1.00 p.

For the place where it is located and the views from it. Yes, I would give 3.5 stars. It's nice and it's fun, but somehow it didn't take me. It didn't make me think about Sandomierz differently than I thought before my arrival. The only interesting place for me, apart from the splendor of the castle, is the modernist exhibition of striped stone jewelry .... I recommend it, but it is not a precious stone.

The last wing of the Beautiful Castle, destroyed by the Swedes, restored and preserved for posterity as a Museum. Beautiful views, lots of greenery. Currently the exhibition outside. It's worth a look.

Unfortunately could not get in, since it was closed by the time we got there around 7pm. Great view to take a look on surrounding area and watch over Wisla river.

The museum in Dlugosz House is not only cheaper but also more interesting. What is interesting in the castle is the concert hall and the room behind it, from which there is a nice view on the river.

Below average trip. We arrived at approximately 12:30 pm and bought our tickets inside of the building. The museum was very scattered and unorganized. I often had no idea what I was looking at. There were a dozen or so rooms filled with various objects. One such room was filled with kitchen items, such as pots, pans, stoves and tables that were used to cook several hundred years ago. Another such room was filled with elaborate crosses. Another room was filled with the accomplishments of Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz. This room included his paintings and and several of his written pieces.

In the basement of the building were several archaeological stones that were native to Sandomierz. This room also contained several pieces of jewelry and tools that were used several hundred years ago. Another such room contained the bones of animals that existed decades ago. There was even a replica of human remains that were found in the city of Sandomierz. Finally, the last room was filled with elaborate furniture that the King used during his time in the castle. This room contained items such as tables, chairs, dining room sets, mirrors, various utensils, pot, pans and the kings crown.

TIP: I recommend spending 2 hours here if you truly want to see everything.

Hi, thank You for Your visit and the review. We wish You had enjoyed the Museum more as we put much care to maintaining our exhibitions revolving around Sandomierz. The Museum is indeed organized into five distinct departments: archaeology, art, ethnography, history and literature. We appreciate each opinion helping us improve visitor experience. Best regards,

We thoroughly enjoyed our look around this museum but the highlight was a shoe collection from 12th to 16th centuries. They have been so cleverly preserved and reconstructed as illustrated by a film presentation. We also spoke to an archeologist who had helped with the exhibition. The museum is not large but was interesting. The views over the river are amazing.

Ok, let start from stating that you have to pay PLN 15.00 for the ticket. Once you paid, you have full access to all the rooms. Unfortunately, there's nothing much there; just pottery, bones and some paintings (not the best I've seen). Just a bunch of items you can find in any typical museum.

Ticket price is 10 zl (~2€). It covers permanent exposition. You may see beautiful jewelery made using stripped flint, archeological treasures from the region, iconographics by Olbinski, interior of the old house from the region. Please, be advise that all the namecards there are in Polish. General information in other languages is hanged up close to the each room entrance.

I have seen only the part which is available on Monday, for free. There is not so much of it, but quite interesting.
