Even if I only visited the baroque garden with rich, colorful flowers, artfully built even on terraces supported by arcades, and walked through the courtyard, I was directly captivated by the Mikulovská landmark. I left out the tour routes with various exposures for this time and kept them for the more inclement weather, for the next time. I will definitely be back.

nice place to take a stroll and enjoy the view.
the gardens were nice, especially the little one next to the ticketshop (you can access it for free). its a typical location for weddings and is a bit hidden with not much public view into it.
walking along the wall where they have little gardens was beautiful.

Castle is closed in the winter time, so we could only see the outside but it is for sure worthwhile to make a stop when you pas Mikulov. Gardens are currently under renovation, open from mid august 2015

A nice castle in Moravia, with pretty gardens and beautiful views over Mikulov. The gardens and the inner court of the castle are free to visit.

a gorgeous citadel on a hill with great views, nice but not massive gardens. We didn't go in. Right off the main square in this delightful surprise of a Moravian gem.

We visited the castle with friends and used the audio guide. We found it a bit tedious, with too much detail and not enough storyline. Basically it is a museum rather than the usual ‘this is how it used to be’ castle. The audio guide was only available in English and the guided tours only in Czech. There were some spectacular views of the town.

According to the reviews here we took the main historical + celar tour. Castle from inside is not as empty as you would expect after reading some comments here, but most of the items is borrowed from other museums and galleries. Celar tour is short with small guided part and self paced reading part. All texts in czech language, would not recommend to foreigners.
Gardens are small, yet beautiful. You can see they are being taken care off (at the end, there are new trees planted, which, when becoming older, will serve as a small maze.

This chateau on border between Moravia and Austria used to be a medieval castle. Owners of the town and the chateau, the families Liechtenstein and Dietrichstein, developed their residence to shine with Baroque elegance. The chateau houses the Regional Museum in Mikulov. My favourite artefacts are from the field of viticulture and traditon of making wine. I am pretty sure you will be impressed facing the giant wine barrel originated in 17th century, times of the Thirty Year War.
