The colour of the castle on a green (summer) or white (winter) background makes this an incredibly scenic place. The museum within is interesting and worth the tour. But this place is more about enjoying the views and surroundings.

lovely walk to the castle. we were short of time to go around all of it. Looks amazing across the lake, with all the snow. Lovely cafe to warm up in with good food. Plenty of parking, at reasonable prices.

The whole time I was there I felt like I was in Game of Thrones. I'm Asian and it was my first time to go to Europe September of 2016. As you can see Trakai Castle is like the best amazing castle I have been to so far! I like how it sits on an island and how clean and... More

The island castle visit is a must. Especially in freezing winter cold. Don't forget to taste the kybynys on the way back.

I had the privilege to tour this castle on a beautiful snowy day which made the castle even more magical. This is something not to be missed on a visit to Lithuania! I toured the entire castle, which was very well presented and I would say can be done in about an hour! Was there right when the castle opened... More

In a sunny day you could see the image of the castle in the water-mirror - looks like in the fairytale. Inside a lot of rooms with different expositions - interesting about medieval lifestyle

We visited over new year and found the castle very impressive. We had a guided tour booked on Viator and our guide was excellent. The castle is steeped in history and is worth a visit in summer or winter.

Visited this Castle this morning. It's one of these things you have to do if you are in Vilnius for more than two days. Personally, I don't think it's a must see place but if one has time, then it could be a good picnic or weekend gateway site. There are tour agencies that organize trips to this site. But... More

If you stay for more than a day in Lithuania take your time and visit Trakai as it's one of "must see" places there. Don't get put off by comments saying it's tricky to get there. Although it's placed in countryside, it's easily reachable by bus or train. Buses are more frequent than trains, running every 30 minutes and slightly... More

Been there on a windy winter morning, the lake was partially frozen and we were windswept and snowed on but still enjoyed this feast for the eyes - the fairytale castle on the little island on the lake. When it is as cold as it was - beware of the icy pathes, no sand no salt on them, very slippy... More
