I've seen a lot of castles, and this one was pretty average as castles go. It's a quaint spot, pretty neat to see. I imagine kayaking here in the summer would be a delight. Be aware - pay for your parking! They patrol this place super carefully. We didn't see any signs and ended up with a ticket. Booooo.

We caught the bus from Vilnius bus station and it cost just 1.60 euro for the 40 minute journey. We visited on 10 February and the day was freezing cold but sunny. The sky was blue as a summers day so we walked the 2 kilometres from the bus station to the castle which is well signed. On arrival the... More

The last time I visited Trakai castle was quite some years ago when I was still in school. And I was always eager to see how it looks like now. It got more modern: some halls have interactive screens where you can learn more about presented items. In one place, there is a projection on the ground and you can... More

It might be long way to access into the castle. But it is beautiful when you walk across the bridge. In April, the weather is a little bit cold. You should have lunch in the restaurant in front of Trakai Castle, so yu can enjoy a romantic view when you eat.

Term cool mainly reverse to temperature of -10. Bit it adds to the atmosphere that the lake is frozen. It was nice but after hearing so much nice things about the place expected maybe a bit more. Some nice rooms with a small exhibition. Place to stop by but not sure if we would do another one hour detour.

Went here for the day in April. The castle is really nice and the village itself is beautiful with all the lakes. Would be an ideal place for a holiday home. Hidden gem !

Trakai Castle constructed around the beginning of the 14th Century on a small lakeland island in Lake Galve once one of the homes of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. A truly impressive castle, almost as if straight out of a European film set. After visiting Lithuania for a week’s holiday, so many people told us about Trakai Castle it was... More

Best plan when you are coming here to avoid disappointment. Heavily reconstructed. Nice place but heavily visited during peak season. If you are arriving by train it is quite a walk and difficult to get to. If you arrive by bus it is a lesser challenge.
