Castle toward residential centre (as was) is now closed, but there is lots in the grounds to make a real few hours/day trip of. It's not and never has been a tourist site, there's no plaques etc. But it's steeped in history and adventure, be sure to read up on the history before going to really make the most of... More

I visited here some 35 short years ago as a Glasgow school staying at the residential school. Fond memories from a bygone age of interactive education. This was my first time back and it's bitter sweet. The old school building is closed up and the grounds are beginning to fall into disarray but the grandure of the place is undiminished.... More

Finally after many years of meaning to go, I made it for a walk around Castle Toward, the old castle ruins and the surrounding grounds. In some ways it's a very sad place. The Castle Toward Residential School stands empty, waiting for a purchaser to come along and revitalise the site. It was extremely short sighted of the council to... More

My experience was a fulfilment of a life long quest in finding my ancestral history from Australia to the original castle on the grounds as a descendent of the Lamont clan. It was a typical rainy grey day and I could not have been happier to be where my forefathers had once so tragically been. The care taker of the... More

Property was empty and closed. Quiet pleasant journey to the old school but it was closed. Very sad as we remember the summer camps for school orchestras from Glasgow many years ago.

I found two forgotten Chinese ponds within the gardens, they have not been well kept but their is two Chinese bridges which join the ponds up , these are a must see. An ideal place to go if you have your dog as they are aloud in the grounds, loads of paths to explore

Horrible rooms, terrible food, pink meat, most of us were sick and I would never ever go back here. I really though it would be better than this being somewhere that schools go, but not very good standard. Even If someone told me I had to go back here I would probably slap them !!
