- daveashukBristol, United Kingdom916 contributionsA soft spotNot the largest of caves, compared to my local Cheddar caves, but worth a look when visiting Sigulda. There are hundreds of carvings into the very soft sandstone, I made an inscription at the smaller cave to the south of main one. You can take local minibus from station to Turaida castle for €0.70, there is a bus stop also by the caves, timetable from information centre at station. Or walk about 30-35 minutes from Turaida or Sigulda station.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 18, 2024
- Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada9,226 contributionsGlad for the Quick StopWe liked how quite a few items in the Gauja Valley were connected and found it interesting. This is where the Rose of Turaida died back in 1620 and Turaida Castle as well as Sigulda Old Castle are both nearby and on either side of the valley from the Gutman Cave. There is a paid parking lot nearby which is free after 5:40 pm and the caves are a 5 minute walk from this parking lot. There is a nice underpass for pedestrians and the cave has a nice park in front of it. Entrance to the area is free and there is a staircase that leads up to the Krimuldas Castles ruins and the cable car that goes over the valley. We took a car when we went and saw the cave and the surrounding castles over the course of a couple of four hours. There are some very good restaurants in Sigulda and we visited one before we turned in for a night at a hotel near Cesis.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 20, 2024

- TheDumbuserDudelange, Luxembourg74 contributionsKing caveThere are definitely bigger and more intense caves somewhere, but around here it is the king of caves and if you around then you take a visit to the king. There are hiking trails nearby and a nice park where to chill. If you don't like hiking, then I don't recommend to climb the stairs, because there are no special views up the hill. If you come by car, there is a paid parking lot across the street. The price for car is 2.50 local euros and in the parking lot there is an opportunity to buy Chinese goods.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 23, 2024

Let’s be honest, as far as the depth and shape of the cave goes, if you’ve visited other European caves like Postojna in Slovenia, this cave is really nothing. BUT, for the area, it is still significant, because in that scale, it is indeed large, and as it is made up of sandstone, basically the whole cave is covered with different markings, some of them centuries old, which makes it much more unique.
However, as others have mentioned, using the adjacent parking just to see the cave will make you feel like you have been ripped off, because they only sell you a ticket for 2,5€ for the whole day, despite how much of that day you actually stay, and the cave does not take long to see. If you are also planning to do some hiking in the area, it makes more sense to park there, you can also get a nice map from the info center that shows all the paths you can walk. If, however, you just want to see the cave, be prepared to overpay, or take a walk/bike ride either from the edge of the center or from Turaida castle.

It is a beautiful cave, but it is not the all day activity. You also should take some hiking trails to explore more. You can park your car at the Tourist Information Centre parking lot, 24 hours is 2€ for regular car. You can get there free maps and suggestions for hiking and visiting Sigulda.

I visited in September 2022 and found this an anti-climax. The cave is within walking distance of Turaida Castle and also a longer walk - say 40 mins. and down a long and steep hill - from Sigulda. This does not appear to be served by any public transport.

The cave is a bit underwhelming. It is the widest cave in the Baltics, I think, but for people who have travelled a bit around the world and took tours in caves in which you can actually walk in, this will be nothing. But anyway, if it is on your way, you can take some photos. I visited it because it is a 20 min walk from the cable car station and on the way to Turaida castle so I would pass by it anyway on foot. From the cave to Turaida it is 30 min walk. The writings in the cave are from 18th century according to info I had. This can be something interesting.

The cave by itself is nothing special, but the park is great for a walk and you hike onto a hill, which I would recommend. A must-visit if at Turaida Castle

We liked the cave, the teritory around it is also very nice and taken care of, however the parking costed 2.5€ and the whole visit lasted for <30mins.

We spent about 10 minutes here. It isn’t a cave, more just a hole in the cliff side with a spring gurgling out. If you are driving by, stop and check out the old inscriptions, but don’t make this the meat of your day.

Latvia is a beautiful country with a lot of amazing places to see, but we don't really have anything mind blowing, so in regards to caves you shouldn't really expect too much. You can walk 2 k from parking to the caves, its calm and nice (as long as you don't visit in weekend, when there's a ton of people). Surroundings are pretty. Caves themselves are worth about 10 minutes of your time, but they're nice. You can walk around to other paths and see Gauja river, castle etc. Its quite nice. It is a big boom during autumn when the leaves are changing - Sigulda is the most popular destination due to it's amazing forests.
Overall -specifically going there for the first time makes sense. Going there again? Only if you're in the area.
Oh &almost forgot -there is a air van that takes you quite high across the river. Bravest can even bungee jump from there. Also there's a zip line. Near the caves there's also a cool park called Tarzans where you have multiple difficulty climbing paths - awesome.

To come to Turaida castle we made a walk approximately 2-3km along covered by forests hills. In one place it was historical cave. we have heard the end of the story from the guide who came there with a group. it was story of love. as I understood this cave is popular due to the legend

This so-called "Cave" is but a joke! Definitely over-hyped as is the entire
Park & Castle. Don't waste your time.
