This area is located southward from the Old Town of Riga, along the right bank of the Daugava. Since the 14th century, Spikeri Quarter had a wharf for loading and unloading cargo ships. There are several warehouses.

Today, history meets the modern, business district with an active cultural life. This old industrial quarter has become the home to the arts and offices.

The quarters' pride is the Spikeri Concert Hall - a building used by the chamber orchestra "Sinfonietta Riga" and the choir "The Latvian Radio Choir".

This quarter has also a dark history. During World War II, here was located the Riga ghetto. Today, the Riga Ghetto and Latvian Holocaust Museum is located here.

I don't know how it looks few years ago because I saw Spikeri only once, but now it is a really good case in point of revitalization of the city. Hope so that it bring development of this part of Riga, definitely it deserved that.

Spikeri basically refers to the warehouses dated back to the Soviet era that are located near the Central Market. They are just, err, warehouses? Nevertheless, some of them have been converted into restaurants and bars, therefore provides an additional option for visiting tourists to check out.

Situated just next to the Central Market, Coach station and Rail station. It has changed a lot in the last few years. However, still need to be careful walking around there as thieves are operating all the time!

formerly warehouses out of town, these halls were completely abandoned and run down for years. Only recently, and based on European funding, reconstruction started, making this a new place in town for culture and arts. Many creative groups and startups moved in, and concerts are held here regularly. You'll also find some restaurants, coffee shops, and bars here. All together a great new area for young, urban folks.

This is an area of old warehouses, where there's a current renovation process to make into some sort of promenade.
For now, it is almost unwalkable and you should definitely avoid it.

This is absolutely nothing to see. Seems they are trying to build something out of this - but what? There are much better places in Riga, for sure.

Behind the Central Market is a group of old warehouses known as I read it as Spikeri or Night Markets. From the signage in the area it was extremely run down and has been redeveloped as specialty shops and offices. It is an interesting area with potential but it has not reached its potential. The entire area behind the market , formerly the Jewish area is tired and neglected but it is interesting with the Holocaust Museum and memorial and some interesting old churches.

Not only the Spikeri itself but also the Spikeri Promenade are worth to spend time. In promenade you can oversee the river of Daugava and just chill.
