One of the best guides we have ever had... anywhere - it is Mihail. Our company decided to visit old town Riga together with guide. It was wonderful, interesting and exiting - it was great.

I booked a tour of old Riga with my family with Mikhail with Observe Riga. The price of the tour was very good for a private tour. This was my 3rd tour with him and I wanted my wife to experience Old Riga the right way. We did the tour in Russian this time, but I did it in English previous times. Mikhail was so professional the way he treated my family and was patient with my young daughter. He answered all of my wife’s questions. At the end of the tour my wife learned a lot about Riga and I learned new things that have changed since the last time I was here.

In November I made a short trip to Riga alone,. I have visited the town 6 times before during the last 15 years, so this time I wanted to learn even more about what I had seen earlier and to see some new sights. I was recommended to get in touch with Mikhail Grinevich at Observe Riga. What a good recommendation!! After some email exchange we agreed to embark on a 3 hour walking tour. I gave him hints on what I had seen before and what I wanted to have included in the walk. Having a private guide makes it easier both for the guide and the tourist, as it is possible to improvise the route and the sights as we go along. It became a perfect tour. Mikhail is very knowledgeable and very passionate about his city. His command of English is excellent. He has a very pleasant personality, and in the end it felt like walking the town with an old friend. As I had seen the old time before, we started with the Moscow district. It was fascinating to hear how the traders from Russia came here hundred of years ago to trade with the Hansa merchants from Germany. We saw parts of the old, brick storage houses that still exists. The area contains many small bars and restaurants, and a Jewish Museum. Second stop was the famous market halls. A visit to Riga must include at least one visit to this vast colourful indoor and outdoor market. But this time with Mikhail it was so much more interesting, as he could tell so much about these buildings. In addition he could give information on all the products for sale. We ended up with an hour in the Art Nouveau district. A totally new experience for me this time, as he was able to point out and explain all the architectural details on the various buildings. In conclusion, a guided walk about in Riga is a fabulous experience, and you cannot find a better guide than Mikhail. I will definitely contact him for a new tour when I return with family or friends.

We recently spent three nights in Riga and our hotel (the Dome) connected us with Mihail at Observe Riga for our three private tour excursions - Old Town Riga, The story of Art Nouveau in Riga and the Market and Warehouse district. Mihail delivered consistently wonderful tour experiences. When you take a tour you always wonder before you begin... will it be interesting? Will our guide be knowledgeable? Will our experience be enjoyable? With Mihail the answer to all of those questions is YES. Clearly passionate about his country, his city and his subject matter, we found Mihail artfully combined history, culture, contemporary perspective and humour to deliver a thoroughly enjoyable guided sightseeing experience. We learned so much and had fun doing it - what more could we ask for from a guided tour! While Mihail delivered so much knowledge and perspective on each tour, his handling of Art Nouveau was particularly fascinating. While we learned the requisite historic context of each building as you would expect, Mihail delved in much deeper, teaching us how to characterize and identify the different sub styles of Art Nouveau and teaching us how to read the stories that the Architects were trying to convey through the artistic elements. It was spellbinding! I’m sure there are plenty of qualified guides in Riga, but Mihail delivered a truly fun and memorable Riga experience. We feel very lucky that he was the one to show us Riga!

We visited Riga a few weeks ago, and booked two tours with Mihail - Old Town and Art Nouveau. Prior to coming to Riga, we had private tours with guides in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Mihail was the best tour guide we had on this Russia/Latvia trip by far. His English was perfect, he was very knowledgeable, and we absolutely loved his personality. Would highly recommend him as a tour guide in beautiful Riga.
