We really enjoyed our walking tour with Erlens. I've been on many free walking tours which typically have really large groups. There is usually an information overload on such tours and I always ended up feeling really beat after the tour. This private tour was a refreshing change and I probably only paid slightly more than I would have for a 'free' walking tour. Erlens was patient with us, answered all of our questions and was happy to stop for a coffee/tea whenever we were cold. We had to reschedule the tour due to a flight delay but Toms helped us out immensely and made sure we found the time and day that suited us. The free tours in most European cities used to be lovely but of late I feel like they've become really crowded and a little too commercial. This private tour was like a quiet walk with a local. Highly recommended!

Hello to everybody who left a review on Tripadvisor for Tours in Riga - Day Tours There are few of us who run tours. My name is Toms. After tour i always mention how important for us as a small company is to have reviews on TA so future gusts can read about this experience. Unfortunately there has been a time of me not responding to all reviews. There are quite a lot of them now. But please know, we are very grateful to each and every one of you for taking your time and posting a review! Thank you so much:)

My 20 year-old daughter and I (French girls) made the tour in the historic Riga with Toms on saturday, March 26th (free tour at 11.00 but we obviously gave a very nice "tip" on the end, what is fully normal). We loved that tour, despite an amazing wind on that day ! It is an excellent opportunity to begin the visit of Riga. We really learnt a lot with Toms which is very nice, very interesting (and funny !). He explaind many very very interesting things and details about the city and the Latvian language as well. Moreover, our group was quite nice with German, Italian, Dutch, and Spanish people.
I really recommend Toms ! Great guide ! (totally fluent in English)

We had a great morning visiting the old town with Toms. It's a really good way to learn about the history of the city in a friendly and interesting way. The tour was the perfect length with recommendations of what else to do in Riga so if you can make this tour your first stop you'll be set up for the rest of the trip.

I was really looking forward with this tour but it did not live up to the raving reviews. The guide was unenthusiastic and often condesending in he's remarks. We were picked up on time, 10pm as promised though we were short on one couple the guide hurried along with the plan and ordered a taxi for half the group and drove the other half in his car. We crossed the river and were dropped off at his boat shop where he started preparing all the kayaks. I would have expected that given its a 3hr tour, more pre-preparation would have been done but instead, we were helping him sort out which kayak to use, as well as setting up all the equipment. It would have been fine to help if he was friendly and nice about it but often he would speak to us as if we were stupid. When we finally were in the water, he paddled way far ahead of the group, and given it's at night, we were all left searching for his little yellow light in the distance. He's guiding was just terrible. When he did stop to let the group re-group, he gave us very minimal explanations of Riga, often bland and unethusastic. I was extremely disappointed with this tour, I enjoy kayaking and loved Riga as a city, but this tour was just not up to scratch. I'm not sure if the guide was upset because two people didn't turn up, or if he just wanted to get through the night quickly, but it was just not the way to run a tour. I left in the same taxi as two others on the group and I asked them how they felt, the exact words were "It was not what I was expecting" and I couldn't agree more with them. I do not normally write bad reviews but I just feel like it's important that this guide reflects and changes his way of touring. It sounds like other groups have had a good time, so maybe it is just a bad luck or a bad day!

We did the tour on Sunday 15th March 2015 @ 11:00.
It was a beautiful sunny morning and was a real pleasure to have Toms take us around his wonderful city. The tour was a leisurely 2.5 hours and it flew.
Toms is a real character and likes to get everyone involved.
He gives a perspective that you simply cannot get from a book.
I would highly recommend the tour to everyone who can speak English.

Toms must have been in a good mood as he treated us to a song from a local Latvian band ... it was a really nice touch.

We initially took the Riga Old Town tour with Toms after chatting to the Information centre on which tour to take...and we weren't disappointed. His knowledge of Latvian history is very impressive and he gave us a great insight into the past and current environment. What we loved the most was Toms enthusiasm and passion towards the country and the tour.

Toms also takes a night time kayak tour, which was one of highlights of the trip. Kayaking at night sounded a bit random to us, but it was so much fun kayaking under no less than 19 of Riga's bridges. It was a cold night but his sense of humour kept us warm. We would recommend both of these tours to anyone wanting a truely unique Riga experience.

I went for 1 hour tour today ( the guide was so kind to exceed the time and spend more time with us with no extra fee) with my wife and my daughter. At the end, it was all what you would desire from this type of experience: safe, instructive, fun! I would recommend to anyone visiting Riga, especially if you want to get a good idea of the areas outside the old town. Roberto

Kayaking around Riga canals is one thing I will not forget in a hurry. If you think the city is beautiful enough anyway then you need to look from another angle and wow😍 some of the sighs are absolutely incredible and out guide made us both feel at ease, gave us time to figure out how to paddle the boat and was more than willing to answer any questions we had about Riga. If you look closely, you might see some beavers! Highly recommended.

Our tourguide (Toms) took us on a 2.5 hour walk around the important sights of Riga (old town, we didn't do the free tour that goes outside of old town). He was obviously very passionate about the place, and told us about a lot of the local history and customs. He was also pretty funny, which makes it a lot easier to remember everything! Definitely recommended as an intro to Riga, a must-do!

The tour is free, donations are suggested and at everyones budget. Our guide Tom had a wealth of knowledge about the city, it's culture and social history. The tour centers around the old city. His style of presentation meant that we were all included as characters in the stories, amusing and inclusive. This tour lasted longer than advertised and Tom ended it with advice and suggestions on what we should revisit and museums we should see. The tour is conducted at a good pace and would suit all age groups. Recommended
